We have shown that both electron-transfer chains of photosynthesis and This reaction reflects the activity of dehydrogenases because the combination of malonate and amytal inhibits the reaction. When BSPT dark-reduction was followed by DAB dark-oxidation, the ratio was 79% in the dark-grown cells: the value corresponded to the sum of the ratios of BSPT dark-reduction and DAB dark-oxidation. Thus, the positions which show activities of dehydrogenases and cytochrome oxidase separately distribute on the photosynthetic membranes. These results indicate the enhancement of respiratory activities in the dark grown-cells. We modified a single argon/dye laser photocoagulator by adding two optical fibers so that it could be used with a slit-lamp microscope, an operating microscope, and with an endophotocoagulation probe. One fiber is attached to a nearby slit-lamp microscope; the other extends approximately 70 m and can be connected to either an operating microscope or an endophotocoagulation probe. An electrically-operated mirror inside the machine controls which of the two fibers the laser beam passes through. Separate control boxes for each fiber permit direct regulation of the photocoagulation process in all situations.
