This study aimed to compare the type of undergraduate research published in the annals of the Brazilian Society of Dental Research (SBPqO), in the year of insertion of the National Curricular Guidelines (DCN) for Undergraduate Dental Schools, in 2002, and nine years after, in 2011. 1,720 abstracts were evaluated, from the 19th (2002) and 28th (2011) annual meetings of the SBPqO, which were categorized according to the areas of knowledge, the administrative category of the institution of higher education and the units of the Brazilian federation. It was observed that the accession of the DCN did not alter the areas of knowledge studied in the researches, and the Dental Sciences publications still the most present. There was a change in the participation of institutions in the scientific production. In 2002, most of the publications were made by state public institutions (52%). In 2011, the federal public institutions were predominant (40%). There was a better distribution in the scientific participation of the institutions from different regions, due to the reduction of dominance of Southeast region from 77.5%, in 2002, to 56.7% in 2011, and the increase of all the other regions: Midwest (6.0%), Northeast (21.1%), North (1.6%) and South (14.6%). It is concluded that the insertion of DCN might have influenced the distribution of the national scientific research, however, it did not change the technical profile of the research conducted during the undergraduate degree in Dentistry.
Alveolysis is characterized as the resorption of the alveolar bone with subsequent exposure of primary tooth root in the oral cavity. The objective of this study was to report a clinical case of a 6-year-old female patient, who attended the Primary Health Care in an inland city of Paraíba, with alveolysis after dental trauma. Clinical examination revealed the presence of alveolysis in the teeth 51 and 52 with lesion characterized by the mobility of dental elements and an extensive gingival vertical lesion in the vestibular region (51). The indicated treatment was extraction of both teeth and clinical follow-up for the others. The clinical conduct started with a psychological adaptation of the patient because she had suffered a trauma and still felt pain in the region. It is concluded that, in the case of a dental emergency, it is necessary to remove primary teeth with alveolysis, thus, avoiding injuries to subsequent permanent teeth and adjacent soft tissues. Pediatric dentistry needs more case reports on this subject so that the etiology and clinical conduct can follow the precepts of evidence-based dentistry.

The internet is a study tool for high school students, however, its content can be disqualified. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability, interactivity and use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by human anatomy websites focused on high school. Ten independent searches were performed on Google® using keywords related to the organic systems. Out of one hundred web links (first ten resulted from each system), only the websites containing information for high school (56%) were analysed. Most of them had good interactivity, however, low reliability and scarcity of ICT tools. The websites “Toda Matéria” and “Só Biologia” were highly punctuated according to the previous criteria. It was concluded that the student has difficulty in finding a reliable human anatomy website focused on high school. It is important a conjunct action of teachers, school and government to improve the use of technology and enhance the Brazilian high school.
