The population studied, similar to that in other regions of Brazil and the world, is aware of the risks of excessive sun exposure and skin cancer prevention, but has not yet incorporated appropriate sun protection measures into their daily habits.
Despite a highly debated subject abroad since the 1960s, mainly in the U.S., the literature about the time series properties of earnings is practically nonexistent in Brazil. Thus, this paper is designed to fill this gap by analyzing the time series behavior of quarterly earnings (operating and net) of a sample of 109 Brazilian listed companies during the period 1995 to 2008. To perform the study, we used five models of earnings forecasting that were previously estimated in the international literature, here called common-structure models, as well as using the Box and Jenkins (BJ) method to verify the possibility of finding a model appropriate to the conditions of the Brazilian market. Empirical evidence is provided showing that only operating earnings can be predicted. It is not possible to apply BJ method to predict net income, as it presents a random behavior, described by a random walk with drift. Also, it is not possible to identify any common-structure ARIMA model for all companies. A model should be identified individually for each company.
Roberto Carlos Klann A study on causality between EBITDA and return of shares of brazilian companies (2008 -2014) ABSTRACTThe overall objective of the research was to identify the relationship between EBITDA and the return of shares of Brazilian companies listed on the BM&FBovespa, through the application of the Granger Causality Test. The research is characterized as descriptive, documentary with a quantitative approach. The results showed that the EBITDA margin on the net revenue was, on average, of 30.43% within the investigated period. Causal relationships occurred in 26 companies between the variables EBITDA (REBITDA) Return and Return of Shares (RACAO).Research results do not allow a definitive conclusion about the influence of the EBITDA variable on the variable return of shares and vice versa, since there was a balance in the results according to the econometric test, confirming earlier studies. However, they do contribute to the literature by identifying causal relationship in a number of companies, which shows the relevance of accounting information to the capital markets.
Small Hydroelectric Power Plants (SHP) are hydroelectric plants that are part of the Brazilian energy matrix and have a low environmental impact. The present work aims to analyze the economic and financial feasibility for the implementation of a Small Hydroelectric Power Plant, in the São Bento River dam, located in the municipality of Siderópolis, state of Santa Catarina. As a methodology, the research is classified as exploratory and uses a case study. As for data analysis, a quantitative approach was adopted, since it is a feasibility study of a project, which involves analysis of data referring to costs, operating profit and expenses. Investments, income and expenses were analyzed, and this made it possible to prepare income statements, cash flows and economic indicators, as a way of analyzing the feasibility of the enterprise. The results were positive, indicating the feasibility of the project, through the analysis of minimum attractiveness rate, net present value and payback.
