The press is often attributed with little credibility, and the recent phenomenon of fake news has put it under the spotlight once again. As a result, the objective of this study is to discover the margin of the veracity versus falsehood of the news reports on tablets in primary education published in digital newspapers. This qualitative study has been developed on the basis of an analysis of 120 news items in Spanish newspapers. The conclusions show that news items on the topic correspond with reality and can be considered credible since they are in line with results provided in the scientific literature. Nevertheless, and in accordance with this type of publication, the treatment of the topic in these news items is superficial, even though they usually dedicate a full page to it. When discussing benefits and controversial points, both newspaper articles and scientific studies highlight the immediacy offered by tablets and the motivation generated in students. At the same time, their use is also linked with harmful effects associated with technopathologies.
In information and communication society, school cannot turn a blind eye to new technologies. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to examine the potential use of tablets by primary school students in the school and the family context. The research was developed using qualitative methodology. A total of 247 respondents participated in the study, involving students, their parents and teachers. The results and conclusions show that there is no systematic work with tablets. Among practices of using tablets in school, it is worth mentioning those related to the investigation/information collection, those belonging to exploratory type and those related to audio-visual creation, while at home tablet usage assumes the recreational character. As a starting point, the positive attitude of teachers and parents towards using tablets has an impact on a better use of tablets, although they cannot be understood as a means to improve students' academic learning. However, tablets increase students’ motivation.Key words: family context; ICT; mobile devices; primary education; tablet.---SažetakU društvu u kojemu prevladavaju informacijska i komunikacijska tehnologija škole ne mogu ignorirati nove tehnologije. Stoga je glavni cilj ovoga istraživanja ispitati potencijal upotrebe tableta u radu s osnovnoškolcima u školi i u njihovome obiteljskom okruženju. The objective of this study is two-fold. Firstly, to analyse and discover the ability of HE students to use the physical home context for e-learning via ICT during the new normal; and secondly, to ascertain the underlying patterns of the adequacy of such domestic spaces. The authors offer a multidisciplinary approach combining pedagogic, architectural backgrounds with considerable experience in didactics, organization management of education, and ICT applied to education. A qualitative, arts-based research methodology that analyses photographs was used. A total of 220 domestic work environment photographs sent by higher education students were analysed. Results and conclusions show that students are able to attend virtual classrooms in a domestic atmosphere. Bedrooms and studies are usually the most-used spaces. Laptops and smartphones are the most frequent central hubs of student learning sessions. Students use other training resources (desktop computers, tablets, etc.) to supplement the most common digital devices. An intense relationship is observed between Space (bedroom and other rooms) and the Sofa and Beds variables, while a moderate one is observed between Age and Care items. The relationship between other variables is weak or non-existent.
This approach is developed through the study of a special situation: the Spanish Distance University (UNED). By these means, we can know the possibilities this university offers, due to its distance systems. We value all the efforts they have done up to date but we suggest some improvements, and structural, normative proposals to assu- re the integration of persons with special educational needs in the university circles, trying to extend it to the diary life.
