Translation is not only a process of language transfer, but also a transfer of culture from the source language to the target language. For this reason, translators must have broad and rich insights. The process to enrich cultural insights, knowledge, and treasures in the translation process can be formed through Jigsaw learning model because it is student-centered learning and requires them to independently seek and share knowledge. This study aimed to improve the ethos of students learning in Arabic translation subject and to improve students’ Arabic translation quality. This classroom action research was conducted two cycles (repeated seven times). Each cycle referred to Spiral Model by Kemmis, McTaggart, and Nixon. The subjects were 52 students of C Class and D Class in Terjemah Arab-Indonesia Course at Arabic Language and Literature Department of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The data of students’ learning ethos were obtained from performance grading rubric in Jigsaw learning and the data of Arabic translation quality were obtained from students worksheet assesment and end-of-cycle Arabic translation test. The results showed that Jigsaw improved (1) the the ethos, the activeness, and the independence of students in seeking and sharing knowledge through Jigsaw and (2) the quality of Arabic-Indonesia translation. This model was effectively used for this course because students can translate longer texts with relatively short time.

A language reflects the culture of the speakers. The use of language on social media platforms without an editor creates several issues, one of which is that it can spiral out of control. The goal of this research is to categorize and analyze expressive speech acts of praise and criticism in BBC Arabic Instagram comments. This is a descriptive-qualitative study with data sources in the form of netizen comments on BBC Arabic between January and February. There are two hundred data in total and they were obtained using a purposive sample technique. According to the findings of this research, many users of social media express criticism more often than they express praise or appreciation, with a ratio of 87:13. Being outspoken in their criticism will become the character and culture of social media users over time. This is clearly not in line with Arab culture, where Islam is the dominant religion. As a result, that was expected that research based on this model will be able to influence how language is used on social media.
This research aims to describe and classify the language used by Arab Embong Community in their daily life. Language and society always influence each other. The development of language is also along with the development of society. Therefore the study of sociolinguistics as a scientific discipline in which studying language in relation to society is always interesting. The problem in this study is the language used by Embong Arab Community which is an immigrant Arab Community in Malang. This was a field research with a qualitative descriptive method which was investigated using the Diglossia theory. The methods of data collection were observation and interview. The results of this research indicated that the Embong Arab community used three languages, namely Fusha and Amiyah Arabic, Indonesian and Javanese. The three languages were used interchangeably according to the purpose of communication. Fusha Arabic, as the official and unifying language among Arabs, was rarely spoken. They preferred to choose Amiyah Arabic to communicate as a non-standard language variety. However, their Amiyah language was different from the Yemeni Arabs in general. This was due to their long-standing interactions with the local population. The unique thing was that even though they were of Arab descent, due to their high level of interactions with the local population, they often used non-formal Indonesian and Javanese Ngoko in their daily lives. So there were two varieties of diglossia in Embong Arab Community, namely high level language consisting of Fusha Arabic and formal Indonesian and low level language consisting of Amiyah Arabic, non-formal Indonesian and Javanese Ngoko).
