Effects on memory of hearing the same plot as a story or drama were empirically tested in three experiments. Analyses showed superiority of remembering dramas over stories with regard to the form of the discourse and recognition of true information, even though both story and drama contained the same semantic content. The implications of these results for a propositional theory of memory were discussed.
