The data from literature shows that frozen vegetal products preserve their nutritional qualities for a long time. Fruits have a high content of substances with antioxidant capacity in the body. There are many recent studies demonstrating the importance of antioxidant substances in neutralizing free radicals in the human body. In this study there were analysed phenolic compounds and flavonoids in eight different species of fruits, belonging to three families. The antioxidant capacity of the extracts was evaluated by: CUPRAC assay, ABTS method and FRAP method. Our results show that the studied fruits represent rich sources of compounds with antioxidant capacity.
The oral cavity diseases represent a public health issue. Antioxidants have an important role in the prevention of these diseases. In this study we tested different types of plants in order to evaluate the compounds with antioxidant capacity and in order to create a topical product which prevents oral cavity diseases. Phenolic compounds and flavonoids were analyzed in four different species of medicinal plants from spontaneous flora of Bihor County. The antioxidant capacity of the extracts was evaluated by: CUPRAC assay, ABTS method and FRAP method. Our results show that the studied medicinal plants represent rich sources of compounds with antioxidant capacity, especially Polygonum aviculare and Fumaria officinalis.
The current study demonstrated the superior in vivo antitumor activity of the association between Salvia officinalis L. and Doxorubicin as compared with Doxorubicin alone and its lack of toxicity. The study was carried out on 32 Mus musculus female mice, for 14 days long. The tumor model was Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma (EAC). Animals were divided in four equal groups of 8 mice: normal control, tumor control, EAC + doxorubicin and EAC + doxorubicin + Salvia officimalis L. All the values that reflect the tumor development (difference in body weight, EAC volume and cellular concentration) were improved in significant manner. Hematological and biochemistry parameters determination were performed for all four groups of mice and no cytotoxicity was found. The efficacy of Salvia officinalis L. as an adjuvant therapy in cancer has been demonstrated.
