Tactile feedback delivered across a limb's surface may enhance human motor learning for applications such as physical therapy and stroke rehabilitation. We have developed a new modular tactile motion guidance system that seeks to overcome some of the actuation and sensing limits encountered with previous approaches. Each octagonal module is composed of two connected circuit boards; the top board contains a microcontroller and a colored LED, while the bottom board contains four cable connection ports and functional elements that differ among module types. Modules attach to the user's skin through disposable skin-safe adhesive patches. In addition to the main system architecture and its graphical user interface, this demonstration will showcase (1) a vibrotactile actuator module that employs a new approach to creating vibrotactile stimuli and (2) an inertial sensing module that can be used along with a Kinect to improve the system's estimate of the user's pose.
