In the present study, heat transfer coefficient of water-ethanol mixture in the subcooled boiling region is determined in a rectangular conventional channel (Channel size ≥3 mm). When the heat flux and mass flux increase it is observed that heat transfer coefficient increases. But the effect of heat flux is significant when compared with that of mass flux in the subcooled boiling region. It is found that maximum and minimum heat transfer coefficient are observed for mixture with 25% Ethanol volume fraction and 75% Ethanol volume fraction respectively. Wall heat flux partitioning analyses is carried out for mixture with different ethanol volume to determine the contribution of heat flux towards convection, agitation and evaporation. It is also found that heat flux due to convection decreases with increase in heat flux at partial and fully developed nucleate boiling heat regions for all volume fractions. The heat flux determined from the partitioning analysis are lower than the experimentally determined heat flux values at the partial nucleate boiling region and are higher at the fully developed boiling region.
Weed management studies in onion (Allium cepa L.)
UDIT KUMARABSTRACT : Field experiment was conducted to compare various weed management practices in onion at Dholi farm, Tirhut College of Agriculture, RAU, Dholi, Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The study revealed that effective weed control was recorded under application of Oxyflurofen 23.5EC before planting + one hand weeding at 40 days after transplanting (T 7 ) or combined spray of Pendimethalin 30EC + quizalofop ethyl 5EC at the time of planting and second application at 30 days after transplanting (T 6 ). The same treatment (T 7 ) recorded significantly highest plant height (58.33cm) and number of leaves (9.87) than rest of the treatments. Significantly highest marketable and total bulb yield was recorded in T 7 (211.68and 242.33 q/ha, respectively) followed by T 6 (202.20 and 232.62 q/ha, respectively) than rest of the treatments. The result indicated that significantly highest weed population (1107.91 per sq m) was recorded in weedy check plot (T 8 ) while lowest in T 6 (195.42 per sqm). The WCE varies from 41.01 (T 3 ) to 68.23 (T 6 ). The BC ratio estimated in different weed treatment practice over weedy check indicated maximum B:C ratio of 2.30 in T 7 closely followed by 1.75 in T 1 and 1.70 in T 6 .
