Abstract. This article will emphasize on how to efficiently implement multicamer (MC-) systems different from and alternative to OFDM with polyphase filterbanks. It will show that when using polyphase filterbanks this is an incomplex and flexible solution. It will be derived that with polyphase filterbanks an additional MC-system design parameter exists; not only spacings between adjacent subcarriers in integer multiples of the inverse MC-symbol duration are possible but that also non-integer multiples of the inverse MC-symbol duration are easily realizable.
This paper presents a systematic overview over different concepts of multicarrier‐trans‐mission under the specific aspect of mobile radio transmission. It will be shown that under realistic multipath channel conditions the postulation of ideal bandwidth efficiency has to be given up. As a consequence sub‐optimum multicarrier concepts are regarded and mutually compared under the aspects of intersymbol interference and adjacent channel interference. A specific impuls shaping concept based on time and frequency concentrated impulses (Gaussian shaping) turns out as an appropriate solution since hereby the adjacent channel interference can be largely suppressed at the expense of a small increase in intersymbol inference. The performance of the different multicarrier concepts is illustrated by various simulation results under mobile radio channel conditions.
Abstract: The use of multicarner techniques under mobile radio conditions allows to achieve an appropriate compromise between the effects of frequency and time selectivity. New questions arise in connection with the different synchronisation problems. At first the problem of carrier recovery will be discussed; new solutions have to be developed under the specific aspect of interchannel interference. The classical solution of clock recovery is based on decision directed feedback loops which can be applied in multicarrier systems as well. It will be shown that even under intersymbol interference conditions a proper timing recovery can be performed.
