In the post-Fukushima nuclear disaster, the use of nuclear as safe, cheap and reliable energy resources is contested. Some actors are considered that nuclear energy is danger for human and environment for long term period. On the other hand, other actors are believed that nuclear is still important energy resources for Japan’s economic development. Risk arises as consequences of science and technology development. Some studies explained Fukushima nuclear disaster focusing on disaster management, energy politics, and technical aspect. Different to previous studies, this article aimsto analyze contestation of knowledge in risk nuclear construction in the post-Fukushima nuclear disaster. Risk is not only real, but also constructed by various institution and actors such as government, academicians, bureaucrats, scientists, and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) as nuclear reactor operator. Contestation of knowledge in nuclear risk construction comprises spreading and impact of nuclear radiation, the food safety standard, and a victim categorization that determine the parties entitled compensation. Contestation of knowledge and construction of nuclear risk urge new uncertainty in modern society. Thus, public take strategies cope with the new uncertainty by carrying out anti-nuclear movement and citizen science.
Japans success in the development of nuclear energy cannot be separated from the role of the nuclear village, a pro-nuclear group comprising experts, bureaucrats, politicians and the mass media. The nuclear village created an image of nuclear energy as safe, cheap and reliable. Using this nuclear village was one of the strategies used to construct a perception of the risk of nuclear energy. Thus, the acceptance by Japanese people of nuclear energy is an important factor in their support for economic development. However, the Fukushima nuclear accident changed the publics perception of nuclear energy and the Japanese Government was asked to end the operation of nuclear power plants. The government decided to change energy policy by phasing out nuclear power by the end of year 2030. Conversely, the Fukushima nuclear accident has not impeded the Indonesian Governments plans to build nuclear power plants. Thus, understanding how the Japanese Government managed nuclear risk is expected to raise Indonesian public awareness of such risks.
Common narratives of the industry include extensive working hours, minimal wages and uncertain conditions. However, there are many creative workers desire to work in anime industry mainly due to passion. The purpose of this research is to analyze the representation of passion and creative labor in Japanese animation industry. Shirobako series provides a case study describing an animated movie production process. Studies on visual and narrative of anime have been conducted; however the study on the production aspect is limited. This study aims to portray anime production complexities and creative labor dynamic. Using constructive approach by Stuart Hall, this study assesses passion on individual and collaborative levels. Based on the results, the passion of creative personnel was personally and subjectively defined. This drive triggers the capacity to acquire new knowledge and endure challenging situations. Furthermore, information sharing and commitment are important qualities of collaborative production. In general, the Shirobako series acknowledged a power relationship gap between production committee members and the creative workforce.
Segmentation and visualization of three-dimensional digital cultural heritage are important analytical tools for the intuitive understanding of content. In this paper, we propose a semantic segmentation and visualization framework that automatically classifies carved items (people, buildings, plants, etc.) in cultural heritage reliefs. We also apply our method to the bas-reliefs of Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Indonesia. The difficulty in relief segmentation lies in the fact that the boundaries of each carved item are formed by indistinct soft edges, i.e., edges with low curvature. This unfavorable relief feature leads the conventional methods to fail to extract soft edges, whether they are three-dimensional methods classifying a three-dimensional scanned point cloud or two-dimensional methods classifying pixels in a drawn image. To solve this problem, we propose a deep-learning-based soft edge enhanced network to extract the semantic labels of each carved item from multichannel images that are projected from the three-dimensional point clouds of the reliefs. The soft edges in the reliefs can be clearly extracted using our novel opacity-based edge highlighting method. By mapping the extracted semantic labels into three-dimensional points of the relief data, the proposed method provides comprehensive three-dimensional semantic segmentation results of the Borobudur reliefs.
