This paper describes a Pyrex waveguide carbon dioxide laser operating at a maximum single line power of about 10 W. Although construction is straightforward, excellent single mode purity is achieved in a far simpler way than most conventional systems.
Apparatus and techniquesdifferent points in the sky, the measurements are recorded by filming the meter scale with a cine camera set for singleframe operation. The camera is triggered automatically when the instrument has been swung to the next point of the sky. As no great demands are made on the quality of the negatives, the film can be developed under field conditions.A small microscope suffices for reading the measurements from the film.
MeritsThe instrument is of relatively simple design and can be made easily. A complete series of measurements across the solar horizon with an azimuth range of 180" takes 120 s. In each series, measurements are made in three spectral ranges and at 21 points of the sky. Total coverage of one half of the sky takes 440 s, and consists of measurements in three spectral ranges and at 81 points in the sky. All these measurements can be carried out by one person. The time taken is comparable to those claimed by other authors @as and Sastrie 1965).Abstract A sample holder is described for rotating a crystal about its axis under tension up to about 5 kg at liquid helium temperature and in fields of up to 100 kOe provided by a superconducting solenoid of 44.5 mm bore.
ConclusionsThe novel feature of this cryostat is that it permits smooth rotation of the sample at low temperature in a solenoid bore
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
