The natural abundance 40.67 MHz 1 7 0 n.m.r. spectra of enol and phenol (naphthol) compounds with intramolecular hydrogen bonds are reported and the chemical shifts of the chelated hydroxy groups are assigned.

Condensation of phenylmalonic acid (I) with the ureas (II) affords the barbituric acid derivatives (III), which are converted to the 4‐azidouracils (V).

Durch Einwirkung aromatischer und heterocyclischer Aldehyde (I) auf die Hydrazide der entsprechenden Cinchoninsäuren (II) werden die Arylidenhydrazide (III) dargestellt.
