Circular economy is a key instrument for reducing climate change and transition to green economy. The industrial symbiosis is a circular business model – a concept, discussed as a platform for exchange of materials among business companies in order to achieve sustainability and reduce waste. “Shared use” of wastes as raw-materials results in multiple benefits – economic (reduction of cost to produce raw materials), environmental (reduction of generated waste, reduction of CO2 emissions, opportunities for applying the green policies), as well as social benefits (creating “green” job positons, support to local communities). A discussion is presented in the paper on industrial symbiosis as an important opportunity for developing a circular economy by the established business model. A survey among thirteen (13) companies from the mineral raw-material sector has been performed and it has proved that companies are aware of the concept, even more – to a certain extent, companies perform the concept in their day-to-day activities. The paper has marked the need of actually mapped networks, which will model a sustainable industrial symbiosis.
The article presents the results of a study of the new practices in strategic human resource management in the raw materials industry. An analysis of the approaches and models for adapting to the business challenges posed by the COVID pandemic is made. Conclusions have been drawn on the results achieved and the applicability of the different approaches to the stabilisation, business sustainability, efficiency, and normal running of the production process. The analyzed practices are applicable and useful in other industrial enterprises, which must adapt the work process to the new requirements and real opportunities for the work process.

The circular economy, which promotes the responsible and cyclical use of resources, contributing to sustainable development is becoming more and more popular, especially in the European Union. The concept of switching from the traditional linear to cyclical consumption model leads to minimisation of waste and environmental pollution, and in this regard the New Circular Economy Plan is already in place. The great ambitions for changes in the industry are strengthened by the Green Pact (Green Deal). The publication presents an in-depth study of the literature on the subject, as well as the five business models through which, in practice, a circle is realised. It has been established that the literature in the context of the mining industry is extremely scarce, and the business models through which the processes in the industry are carried out are poorly studied. An up-to-date survey of 13 companies in the raw-material resources sector in Bulgaria is also presented, aimed at showing the extent to which they understand and apply the circular economy in their work. The results unequivocally prove that the concept is not new for the business.
