Introduction Pandemic caused by novel coronavirus has created an unprecedented situation of lockdown in India. This retrospective study was undertaken to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on cases of maxillofacial trauma and its etiologic variation by comparing it with the previous year archived data. Materials and Methods Patients with maxillofacial fracture visiting during the lockdown period (Phase) were compared to the patient's record during the same time period in the year 2019 (Control). They were subcategorised based on the etiology of trauma, i.e., road traffic accident (RTA), self-fall, physical assault and animal attacks. Age and gender variations were also assessed. Degree of significance was calculated using t test and p value obtained. Result Mean age of trauma patients during lockdown and control period was 32.66 and 27.93 years, respectively. Number of cases of overall trauma had significantly decreased. Cases of RTA and self-fall were 22 and 4 in lockdown compared to 135 and 16 during control phase. Cases of physical assault increased by 50%, i.e., from 9 to 6 on comparison of both the phases. Animal attack maxillofacial injuries were 2 in each group. Conclusion RTA and subsequent drop in numbers of maxillofacial trauma can be shown as the benefit of lockdown nonetheless on the other side increase in number of physical assaults also shows how isolation and restrictions have psychological negative impact on society.
Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) derived Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) have emerged as an effective candidate for amelioration of liver fibrosis. However, the effect and the mechanisms of MSC-EVs in liver repair remains elusive. In this study, we have evaluated the differential regenerative efficacy of EVs derived from two different human tissue-specific MSCs (Adipose tissue; AD-MSC and Wharton's Jelly; WJ-MSC), in a murine model of chronic liver fibrosis. Mouse model of chronic liver injury was induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 ) injection, followed by administration of EVs via the tail vein. Both quantitative and qualitative assessment was done to evaluate the hepatic regenerative potential of tissue specific MSC-extracellular vesicles. EVs, regardless of their MSC source, were found to be effective in alleviating chronic liver fibrosis, as demonstrated by macroscopic alterations in the liver. According to the findings of the comprehensive study, there were subtle variations in the tissue specific MSCs-EVs mediated approaches. A greater anti-fibrotic impact was demonstrated by AD-MSC derived EVs through extracellular matrix alteration and hepatocyte proliferation. WJ-MSC EVs, on the other hand, have an anti-inflammatory effect, as evidenced by alterations in the expression of pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Furthermore, cargo profiling of these EVs revealed differences in the miRNA and protein expression, as well as the pathways that they were associated.
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a class of environmental pollutants generated from incomplete combustion of organic materials. PAHs in tea have been studied for five locally available brands. Six to seven PAHs from list of 16 priority pollutants (US EPA) were found to be present in samples of various brands of tea. Benzo[a]pyrene (2A: probable human carcinogen) was found in two samples, and naphthalene (2B: possible human carcinogen) was found in all the tea samples.
In this paper linear quadratic Regulator (LQR) and Proportional integral derivative (PID) controllers are designed for pitch control system of an aircraft. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used for tuning the parameter LQR and PID controllers. The controller design begins with the appropriate mathematical model to account the longitudinal motion of an aircraft. Simulation is done within the MATLAB and results for the pitch angle response of an aircraft are represented in step's response. LQR and PID controllers are associated with their parameters which can either be tuned manually or by optimized methods like genetic algorithms to get better control and enhancement in the performance. GA is the powerful tool in the field of global optimization to various problems. Here genetic algorithm is successfully applied for Pitch control of an aircraft using MATLAB simulation for tuning of LQR and PID controllers and thus optimized parameters values for the LQR and PID controllers are derived.
