Globitermes sulphureus is a well-known termite for the suicidal behaviour of the soldiers which liberate a sticky defensive secretion by rupturing their body. We have shown that this secretion is elaborated in a highly transformed frontal gland occupying a large part of the abdomen and the thorax, and not in the salivary glands as had been assumed until now. This special frontal gland without an outside opening is ruptured by violent contractions of the abdominal wall at the level of a weakness area of the sternal thoracic integument, just before the forecoxae. This soldier autothysis is efficient but represents only one of the components of the defensive strategy of the species which also uses a mechanical defense with mandibles and the intervention of an alarm pheromone recruiting congeners.
Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was applied to the determination of the serum IgG antibody contents in rats immunized with the organ-specific autoantigen (S antigen) of the retina. Optimal conditions (i.e. S antigen concentration, serum and conjugate dilutions, enzymatic reaction time) were determined. The assay required only a single serum dilution and was well reproducible. It was very sensitive, allowing the detection of low antibody contents in animals immunized with 1 microgram of S antigen. The time course of the antibody response and its variations according to the dose and the species of the immunizing S antigen were considered.
Thanh Hoa is aiming at developing tourism as a key economic industry in 2030, creating a motivation to impulse socio-economic development, making Thanh Hoa one of the top tourism development provinces of the country. With an aim to attract more domestic and international visitors, apart from improving quality and business environment, diversifying tourism products, Thanh Hoa needs to focus on training and capacity building for tourism human resources of the province. It requires a more professional tourism human resource that is equipped with essential skills to adapt and meet the demand of tourism development at the current period of time. Hence, this article analyses the real situation of tourism human resources in Thanh Hoa Province with a view to presenting relevant forecasts and recommendations on solutions in order to improve the quality of the tourism human resource of Thanh Hoa Province in the current context.
S-antigen (also named arrestin or 48K protein) is a protein abundant in photoreceptor cells of vertebrates and invertebrates. The presently known function of this protein in retina is to arrest the enzymatic cascade of phototransduction in retinal rods, through its binding to photoactivated and phosphorylated rhodopsin. Proteins closely related to S-antigen were recently demonstrated in several non photosensitive cells. In this work, we demonstrated the presence of a protein similar to retinal S-antigen with regards to its immunoreactivity with a panel of monoclonal antibodies and its molecular weight in soluble extracts of human platelets. This protein was purified by immunoaffinity chromatography using a rabbit antibody to retinal S-antigen. This S-antigen-like protein could have a regulatory function in G-protein-mediated transduction of chemical signals in platelets, similar to arrestin function in phototransduction.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
