The haematological effects of the economically important alkylphosphates, trichlorophone and dimethoate, were tested experimentally on rats. A pronounced haematotoxic action of these pesticidal organophosphate compounds was found, including severe hyperplasia of the haematopoietic parenchyma of bone marrow and extra-osseous myeloid metaplasia, particularly in liver and spleen. The interpretation of the results in terms of a myeloproliferation (panmyelosis) and myeloid leukosis and their practical implications are discussed.
