Shortages of many of the basic elements for stainless steel production were of primary interest during the past year. Methods for reclaiming critical elements and substituting titanium for niobium in stainless steels were described. Increased interest was shown in sigma phase, its nature, occurrence, and effect on stainless steels. Numerous prominent metallurgists contributed valuable information in this regard. The majority of data on corrosion-and heat-resisting alloys concerned their specific application in industry, although much basic research information was also reported. An excellent resume of stainless steel
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
