However, BIM adoptions have not been 11 generally embraced by many Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) firms, 12 particularly in developing countries; and studies that investigate the important drivers to BIM 13 adoptions among construction professionals through quantitative approach are limited. The 14 study purpose is to address the aforementioned gap. 15 16 Design/methodology/approach -The study used a literature review, a pilot study and a 18 questionnaire survey. The primary data were carried out using structured questionnaire 19 distributed to the four different, selected BIM adopters' AEC firms. These comprised 20 architectural firms, facility management firms, quantity surveying firms and structural 21 engineering firms in Lagos, Nigeria. Data obtained were analyzed using mean score, standard 22 deviation, Kruskal-Wallis test, and factor analysis.23 24 Findings -The study identified 23 drivers to BIM adoption and the relative importance of 25 the identified drivers was gauged from each selected BIM adopters' AEC firm category. The 27 result of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed that there is no statistically significant difference in 28 the perceptions of the four selected AEC firms in the mean ranking of the identified 23 29 drivers to BIM adoption. The findings from factor analysis categorized the identified drivers 30 into two major factors to include: cost and time savings, a...
The struggles to practise sustainable construction are not gaining the desired traction in Nigeria. This study established the likely barriers to successful application of sustainable construction in the Nigeria construction industry and factors to overcome the possible barriers. A quantitative approach was used for the study and a questionnaire survey was conducted among the professionals and other stakeholders. A descriptive method was used in analysing the collected data. Among the highly ranked sustainability barriers to construction practice are poor sustainability education in academic institutions, lack of incentives for designers to facilitate sustainable design, ignorance of lifecycle cost benefits, sustainable construction regarded as low priority and other issues take priority, and resistance to cultural change in the industry. The research recommends adequate sustainability education in academic institutions to positively impact the required cultural change in the industry. There is call for proper government policies that support implementation of sustainable construction practices. The study also advances the need for construction professionals and stakeholders to embrace the concept of sustainability education through continuing professional development and or postgraduate studies to improve the thinking and practicability of sustainable practice of construction in Nigeria.
The operational phase of public private partnership (PPP) projects in Nigeria has consistently witnessed serious challenges. Researches by various authors suggest that the major factors militating against the successful growth and development of PPP projects in Nigeria and some part of the world is the marginalisation of end-user stakeholder in PPP projects. As such, this study set out to reveal factors affecting the successful management of the diverse interests of end-user stakeholders of the PPP road projects in Nigeria. Using factors from related literature, a questionnaire was developed and distributed to users of two major PPP road in operation in Nigeria: Lekki/Epe Toll and Apakun Murtala Mohammed PPP toll road. A total of 282 questionnaires were returned representing 70.5% response rate. Cronbach's alpha test was used to check reliability levels of the questionnaire variables (i.e. Likert scale questions) while factor analysis was used to estalish the underlying factors affecting the successful participation of endusers stakeholders in PPP road in Nigeria. These underlying factors were fully discussed. It was concluded that active involvement of end-users stakeholders in decision-making on PPP projects from inception to conclusion will solve the marginalisation of end-user stakeholder's in Nigeria PPP road projects.
Purpose This study aims to investigate two public private partnership (PPP) road projects in Nigeria for exploring factors that can motivate end-user stakeholders for contributing towards sustaining a PPP project in the long-term. Design/methodology/approach Using a case study methodology approach, this study adopts two-way data collection strategies via in-depth interviews with PPP experts and end-user stakeholders in Nigeria host communities and a questionnaire survey to relevant stakeholders. Findings The study identifies an eight-factor structure indicating critical success factors for ensuring end-user stakeholders support PPP projects on a long-term basis in their host communities. Originality/value Results of the study have huge implications for policymakers and project companies by encouraging the early integration of far-sighted measures that will promote long-term support and sustainability for PPP projects amongst the end-user stakeholders.
Tourism is important in bringing a positive socioeconomic change in the form of creating jobs, increasing income and welfare. The study at hand employs the generalized method of moments approach in the course of investigating the dynamic relationship of tourism expenditures, GDP, globalization, CO2 emissions, and exchange rate with tourism demand during 1995-2014. A total of 50 countries are included in this research study, which is divided into two categories, i.e. 25 developed economies and 25 developing countries. Based on the Panel GMM estimates, for both economies and overall sample, the findings reveal a positive and a significant association between tourism expenditures, world income, globalization and GDP per capita, while there are mixed results for the real exchange rate, environment quality and government effectiveness. It can be suggested that the governance, growth, environment protection and exchange rate management policies can be tapped to boost the tourism receipts.
