E-commerce is important in creating a knowledge society and cashless business environment in the era of the fourth industrial revolution (IR 4.0). However, not all Malaysian entrepreneurs are ready for this digital way of performing business. The e-commerce ecosystem is still less matured, and the e-commerce adoption rate is still low among entrepreneurs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the factors that influence the entrepreneurs’ motivation to adopt e-commerce. Self-determination theory (SDT) was employed in determining the factors that influence the motivation to adopt e-commerce. This study employed a quantitative research method and surveyed 273 entrepreneurs through self-administered questionnaires. It used multiple regressions analysis to analyse the data and test the hypotheses. Based on the results obtained, it concluded that competence, relatedness and autonomy positively and significantly influenced entrepreneurs’ motivation to adopt e-commerce. Relatedness was found to be the most important factor, followed by autonomy and competence. This study contributed to entrepreneurship literature by applying SDT in understanding entrepreneurs’ motivation in e-commerce adoption. It also shed light on the importance of individual psychological factors in decision making among entrepreneurs. The study suggested that building a strong connection among the entrepreneurs, providing freedom to business operations and developing knowledgeable entrepreneurs are some crucial steps in motivating entrepreneurs to adopt e-commerce, especially in a developing country like Malaysia.
The number of youths embarking on entrepreneurship in Malaysia is still low despite various efforts have been exerted by the government. Specifically, technopreneurship which is an important new breed of entrepreneurship in the post COVID-19 era is facing various challenges, especially in the development of competitive technopreneurs. To date, there is a lack in the literature pertaining to intentional-based studies, specifically on technopreneurship. As such, this study was motivated to identify the individual factors that influence university students’ intention towards technopreneurship. It developed a research model based on the concepts of self-efficacy and individual entrepreneurial orientation. A total of 196 university students from a public university were surveyed through self-administered questionnaires. The results indicated that self-efficacy, namely computer capability and Internet ability, as well as individual entrepreneurial orientation positively and significantly affected intention towards technopreneurship. Several suggestions were given to strategize technopreneurship development in the country. For instance, higher learning institutions should offer non-traditional technopreneurship curriculum and upgrade technological infrastructure. Malaysian government has implemented various programs to encourage entrepreneurship among Bumiputra youths. However, the number of young Bumiputra entrepreneurs is still far below the expectation. The fourth industrial revolution (IR 4.0) and 5G technology has highlighted the importance of technopreneurship. Unfortunately, technopreneurship is still considered new and many challenges remained. This study was geared towards identifying the factors influencing technopreneurial intention among Bumiputra students in Malaysia. It used self-administered questionnaire to survey 138 Bumiputra undergraduate students from a public university in Malaysia. It developed a research model which integrated self-efficacy theory and individual entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) concept. Based on the analyses performed, it found that information and communication technology (ICT) self-efficacy and two elements of IEO (i.e.: risk-taking and pro-activeness) positively and significantly influenced technopreneurial intention. However, innovation did not influence technopreneurial intention significantly. As such, this study suggested that higher learning institution should realize the importance of technopreneurial education in developing competitive technopreneurs among Bumiputra youths. Furthermore, students should be given more opportunities to pro-actively search for business opportunities, handle actual business to learn risk management and attend ICT courses to increase their ICT capabilities. This paper examines the linkage between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and talent retention amongst Malaysian engineers from the perspective of entrepreneurial orientation theory.A cross-sectional survey of 104 engineers from private organisations in Malaysia was conducted to test the hypothesised relationships between constructs. The population comprised graduate and professional engineers who were registered under the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). The purposive sampling method was employed for data analysis purposes. Data was analysed using partial least square-structural equation modelling technique. The results of this study indicated a significant relationship between innovativeness, proactiveness, risk-taking, and competitive aggressiveness and the intention to stay (ITS). Autonomy was found not significant in predicting engineers’ ITS the same jobs. Engineers require EO to support their freedom of ideas and thoughts to exploit opportunities, produce creativity, and solve engineering task-related problems and uncertainty situations. EO dimensions can be used to predict engineers’ ITS current employments. This study provides crucial information for the organisations and policy makers to develop mechanisms and policies to enhance the engineers’ involvement of effective EO for increasing retention.
