Many models have been published in the last decades, however, it is still difficult to predict the fluid dynamics and the mass transfer efficiency of packed columns. In this work, a novel, general model for describing the fluid dynamics in random and structured packings has been developed. For its application it is sufficient to know the geometric surface, the void fraction and the dry pressure drop of the packing.
