This species is allied to the widely spread S. longiflora, Lam., which differs in having ovate-or linear-lanceolate acuminate leaves, which are ciliate in the early stage. The hairs at length break away from S. floribunda, leaving asperities on the back of the leaves. The numerous flowers clustered at the ends of the branches must make this a beautiful object, and it is a matter for regret that so few of the showy-flowered members of this family have found their way into cultivation._C.
