Masyarakat Minangkabau menganut falsafah-falsafah sebagai konsepsi yang implikasikan ke dalam kebudayaannya, salahsatunya yaitu dengan kehadiran kesenian. Kesenian dalam kebudayaan masyarakat Minangkabau hidup dan berkembang bersama perjalanan waktu serta daya kreativitas masyarakatnya dinamis. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan melakukan pengamatan terhadap kesenian, khususnya yang berhubungan dengan tradisi dan kreativitas dalam kebudayaan masyarakat Minangkabau dengan menggunakan pendekatan Hermeneutik dan studi literatur. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pengamatan mengenai bentuk-bentuk seni tradisi Minangkabau khususnya musik tadisi dan perkembangannya pada masyarakat Minangkabau. Hasil dan pembahasan dari penelitian ini antara lain mengenai; bentuk-bentuk kesenian tradisi Minangkabau dan kesenian dalam kebudayaan Minangkabau.
Kreativitas para seniman musik untuk meningkatkan apresiasi di dalam masyarakat, dengan menciptakan bentuk baru yang sumbernya dari idiom-idiom kesenian tradisional. Untuk mengembangkannya perlu menganalisis konsep-konsep yang ada dalam seni tradisi tersebut. Hal ini agar tidak meninggalkan nilai-nilai yang terkandung di dalam kesenian tradisi itu, selain itu dengan menciptakan musik baru diharapkan dapat menambah perbendaharaan suatu bentuk kesenian tradisi dalam bentuk baru yang menjadi kebanggaan masyarakat pendukung kesenian itu
This type of research in this study was a qualitative with using a descriptive analysis approach that aims to describe the process of implementation of Drum-band extracurricular activity in SMP Negeri 11 Padang. The object of research was Drum band of SMP Negeri 11 Padang. The main instruments of this research were the researcher as an observer, the participants (actor) in an insider position also played a direct role in the object under study. Meanwhile, the supporting instruments used in this study were done by taking documentation from recording device in the form of observation, interview lists and photo camera. The results of the study illustrate that in the implementation of Drum-band extracurricular activity in SMP Negeri 11 Padang, the preparatory step of activitiy begins with the selecting Drum-band members, determining training material, determining training schedules, training and performances. In getting the most out of it, the builder makes two forms of training, which are regular weekly exercises conducted on Saturdays in Personal Development lesson and additional exercises that are done two weeks before Drum-band takes part in competitions or holiday. The utilization of music in the homeroom will help increment the fervor of elementary school understudies in learning and simultaneously can expand the adequacy of accomplishing objectives. No less significant is learning through music and additionally learning with music, and finding out about music can give numerous advantages to the physical and mental improvement of elementary school understudies.
Dalam musik tradisional Minangkabau khususnya musik Talempong Pacik, tidak ada kesamaan tangga nada antar kelompok musik Talempong di setiap kanagarian di Minangkabau. Tangga nada yang digunakan dalam Talempong tradisional tidak sama dengan tangga musik barat (diatonis) dengan kata lain tangga nada yang dipakai adalah pentatonis. Bagi masyarakat Minangkabau untuk memainkan Talempong Pacik, yang dibutuhkan adalah kebenaran oral rasa musik dalam menafsirkan suara atau nada yang diinginkan (sense of music). Hal tersebut, menjadikan bentuk variabilitas nada ataupun tangga nada tradisi Talempong Pacik menjadi sangat beragam. Dalam konteks kesenian tradisi bentuk tangga nada atau pola musik Talempong Pacik berbeda-beda, sehingga menjadikan kesenian tradisi ini sebagai kesenian kearifan lokal dengan warna varian tradisi dalam sosiokultur masyarakat pada beberapa kanagarian di Minangkabau. Berdasarkan pada teori etnomusikologi, kesenian tradisi khususnya musik mempunyai peran penting pada sosiokultur masyarakat pendukungnya, baik secara penggunan (use) maupun fungsinya (function).
