The aims of this study are to reveal how the forming processes of sovereignty through state of exception so it appears bare life, and how homo sacer attempt to face sovereign state in US movie. This analyses are focuses on political issues in American society under American government which is reflected in US movie. Political issues are taken up by analyzing the political movement which is taken by the goverment. After analyzing the political policies taken by the government, this research will reveal production and reproduction through state of exception in creating sovereign state. State of exception refers to ethnic and racist. This research uses of Jordan Peele's US movie and theory of sovereign & bare life according to Giorgio Agamben. This research applies descriptive qualitative method. The findings are the government gives different treatment to their citizens. The government gives special treatment to the society in general, while they exception and discrimination against the tethered. Exception and discrimination are the impact of the adaptation of law in order to fulfill the society needs.
This study explains the relationship between the Kardashians and the American dream that has been championed by Americans to date. It is hypothesized that the more popular culture develops in our lives, the more it will affect the development of our culture. This can be seen from reality shows as a kind of popular culture that many people love. To find out how big the influence is, this study uses the Kardashians as an object to see how they and their reality show influence the community. By using textual analysis and utilizing materialism and capitalism as the theory, this research is expected to reveal the impact of the Kardashians on the development of the American dream. This study takes several texts from the reality show and analyzes them according to the theory used. Then, it is found that technological progress and economic growth, including commercial TV, expose Americans to materialism. The Kardashians commodified it into a captivating moneymaker that reality TV viewers aspire and inspire to consume. In addition, the materialism that they display on reality TV shows also thrives in viewers' minds from which they take advantage by commodifying every aspect of their lives as a form of product to sell so that viewers buy what they advertise. Keywords: American Dream, Keeping Up with The Kardashian, Materialism, Capitalism.
Globalization is the global information spread and people interconnectivity. It is driven by technological developments in transportation and communication, removing cultural boundaries among nations. Cultural differences are increasingly less tangible and visible in all cultural products, including in fashion. Due to globalization, fashion brands that originate in a certain country can open stores across multiple continents. The invention of the Internet further widens their accessibility by consumers in any part of the world. However, globalization also brings an affordability gap between the upper and the lower classes. Nonetheless, fashion brands can also take advantage of this economic difference in appealing to their consumers. One of those brands is Supreme. Founded in 1994, it became the most sought-after hypebeast brand among street-fashion enthusiasts worldwide. How do they do it in less than 30 years is interesting to analyze. To answer this objective, this article is conducted from the cultural studies standpoint and the case study method. There are three formulas of positioning it adopts in order to grow globally: (1) the commodification African-American community, (2) the use of celebrity endorsement, and (3) the hype of limited-edition releases. Supreme sells oversized streetwear, heavily influenced by Hip-hop culture, a music genre rooted in the lives of African Americans. The brand makes use of celebrities, especially rappers, to endorse its clothes and accessories. It also continually makes headlines by releasing limited-edition products as well as collaborating with well-known figures and brands.
