As a result of developments in technology, globalization and digitalization, virtual teams have become indispensable for many industries. Transformations in information and communication technology have provided new opportunities for businesses to create and manage virtual teams. Today, all organizations have had to introduce new methods of communication and have started to continue their conversations through digital platforms. It has become inevitable for teams to form in such virtual environments. Virtual team members are made up of individuals from different genders, experiences, cultures and geographic locations. While there are leaders in virtual teams as in face-to-face environments, this type of leadership performs its function through information and communication technologies, unlike traditional types. Although there are many studies on face-to-face leadership in academic studies and despite the increasing use of digital platforms, it is observed that there is a need for studies on leadership styles in virtual organizations. The main purpose of this study is to create a scale about leadership characteristics in virtual teams. With the present study, it is aimed to develop a valid and reliable scale in order to discover and analyze the virtual team leadership characteristics of individuals within the multinational companies. During the scale development process, literature review, focus group interviews and statistical analysis were used to create the items to be included in the scale. First of all, focus group discussions were conducted by examining the scale developments on the leadership phenomenon. A total of three focus group interviews were held; expert opinions were used to ensure the content validity of the results, and a draft scale with 29 items was created as a result.
The longevity of organizations depends on the ability to deliver quality products or services to the customers. Starting with the 1920s the notion of quality in organizations has gained importance and currently millions of companies worldwide apply one model of quality management or the other. European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) model is a prime example practiced throughout Europe. With the world resources being ever depleted at fast rate sustainability is also becoming a key issue in today's business world. Sustainability and corporate social responsibility principles are generally in line with the EFQM model and have many common elements. This paper explains and demonstrates how the EFQM criteria and sustainability principles overlap. Examples will be given from reverse logistics and supply chain practices.
Reverse Logistics has become an important concept in today's supply chain operations. Besides being an old concept, it was hard to find in literature a precise differentiation from some recycling terminology. This chapter starts with a detailed explanation of Logistics and Reverse Logistics concepts, and then continues with the processes carried out in reverse logistics systems, and also the effects on marketing of the products that are subject to the reverse logistics. With all that, the case of automobile recalls will be included in the research scope of this chapter as an exploratory example. Precisely, the literature shows valid examples of direct relationship between recall of automobiles and their demand. In light of the literature, and real-world examples automobile recalls are examined to better explain the concept of reverse logistics.
The aim of the research is to propose a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methodology for the performance evaluation of 76 dealers of Hyundai in Turkey in terms of after sales services such as repair and maintenance. Through this work, appropriate inputs and outputs are determined and the DEA methodology is applied for 76 dealers. DEA is a multi-criteria decision making model that can be used to determine rank orders of units when there are given inputs and outputs. Three inputs and four outputs are determined by the authors and expert opinion. After data collection and DEA analysis, we reported the ranks of 76 dealers after sales services and classify the ranks by regions in order to spotlight certain regional considerations (such as popular touristic destinations) in terms of after sales performance. Research is limited to a specific brand and can be extended to include other brands in the future. Also, other after sales services such as appliance repair can be included. After sales service personnel can easily use the method by Excel and can see their performance with respect to other dealers. As dealers can see performance based incentives becoming a major part of their total profits being able to see the relative positions among the many dealers would have practical implications.
