A survey was conducted among patients that use health insurance pharmacies to determine the importance of drug consultation contents that are discussed during holiday and night hours and regular open hours . We investigated differences in the degree of importance in consultation topics for each drug between holiday and night hours and regular open hours . Also, for each time period, we also attempted to identify priority drug consultation topics for multiple medications. Three important consultation topics during holiday and night hours were found to be drug interaction , actions to be taken in an emergency and whether or not to take a medication . When drug consultation topics were compared between holiday and night hours and regular open hours , topics regarding expiration date and indication were found to be of higher importance during regular open hours . In regard to ideal patient consultations at pharmacies, based on the fact that i) the consultation contents differ depending on the patient s background and the time of day, and ii) the patient s needs differ from the topics of information covered when providing medication instructions and other information, the above results suggest that consultations need to be improved and aligned with the patient s needs.

The objective of this study was to identify the perceived usefulness of various health consultations at the community pharmacy among the residents. We conducted a web survey of nationwide panelists enrolled by a research company. For 2,400 respondents, the degree to which respondents perceived there was an integrated usefulness for there being a pharmacy where various health consultations were enriched (i.e., "comprehensive usefulness") was assessed. "Comprehensive importance" of a pharmacy user was compared among different groups of respondents disaggregated by several characteristics. "Encouragement of a medical institution" and "consultation on nutrition" had a relatively strong effect on "comprehensive importance". The need to provide a pharmacy service that recognizes the viewpoint of health promotion and maintenance of the user regarding the consultation on nutrition and dietary habits adopted from this investigation was clari ed in the health consultation duties of the pharmacy.
In this study, we conducted a web-based survey of 800 elderly people to clarify sex and regional diŠerences in the usefulness of individual health consultations in community pharmacies for improving the health of elderly people. The results demonstrated that the health consultations were more useful for those with high health consciousness than those with low health consciousness and men living alone had the greatest need for health consultations. Among residents of urban areas,``physical activity and exercise'' aŠected the usefulness of the health consultations for both men and women. In contrast, among residents of rural areas,``nutrition and dietary habits'' aŠected the usefulness of the health consultations for both men and women. These results demonstrate that individual health consultations with elderly people focus on problems other than the side eŠects of medications. Therefore, it is expected that such consultations will continue to contribute substantially to the health of residents in the future. It is necessary for pharmacies to provide consultations on a more diverse range of issues and to be recognized by residents as providers of medical advice in the community.
