Dental photography, which is used in various stages of orthodontic treatment processes, is an overall system containing several components such as a camera and various retractors, mirrors or contrasts and other products. To provide an efficient photography procedure, usually more than one attendant -and sometimes even the patient himself-are required to take part. The relevant literature mostly focuses on equipment-based problems and their affects in the quality of final pictures; however, no prior research has been identified regarding the ergonomics and human factors aspects, as well as its emotional influences on the patients. In this paper, 12 professionals with at least two years of experience in dental photography are observed during the digital dental photography procedure, and semi-structured interviews are conducted with them. The identified shortcomings provide hints for possible areas of improvement regarding the equipment used in the process and the overall system.
In this study, it is aimed to reveal the effects of the concept of sustainability on product design and sustainable design methods through the focus on urban furniture. In line with this purpose, the approaches to the design processes and methods of urban furniture based on the 17 basic development goals of sustainability are discussed through stakeholders such as municipalities, companies and designers involved in this industry. In this way, it is aimed to determine the current perspectives of the sector and to reveal information that can be a reference for future studies. The research was carried out through interviews within the scope of urban furniture manufacturers, design groups and municipalities in the Marmara region of Turkey. As a result of this research, the approaches of the urban furniture production sector to the concept of sustainable design were examined through discussion and evaluation, and findings and suggestions were presented.
Industrial design is a discipline in which numerous information contents are synthesized. The success of the design outputs depends on the correct planning and management of the process in which a large amount of information that is the subject of the design is processed. While human factors and ergonomics provide theoretical information that can be input to the design, it possess also applied contents. Theoretical information would be sufficient in some design studies, whereas the applied studies within the framework of human factors and ergonomics are performed in some other studies. Being able to correctly give the relevant formation to the designers depends on the fact that the theoretical and practical content of design education is in a structure where they are synthesized in a certain harmony. In addition, although intuitive design behaviors can generate subjective results, it should be aimed that the objective evaluation processes can achieve tangible results that can be held accountable and that the foresight skills of the designer candidates should be developed in this direction. In the light of this information, experimental studies have been carried out within the action research framework towards the use of objective information sources in the design process. As a result of the studies, while the tangible design outputs that can be evaluated from an objective point of view were reached, it was also determined that the applied methods made contributions in the learning motivation.
Purpose: In this study, it is aimed to investigate timedependent changes and causality in user experience within the framework of hedonic and pragmatic approach. Method: The temporal changes of the user experience have been tried to be determined through the V60 product, which is one of the coffee equipments. In the first stage, the interview method was used to detect deep information and unobservable situations, and in the second stage, the design probe method which is used to collect instant data in long-term experience research, was used. Findings: The temporal variation of the user experience was evaluated in 4 stages. These; pre-experience period, exploration period, familiarity period and assimilation period. When the change of hedonic and pragmatic approaches over time is examined, pragmatic adjectives were found to have higher density than hedonic adjectives. Conclusion: In hedonic approches; practical use, dominance and product feeling are positive, the expectations and feelings about the service, security and action process are negative sub-factors that explain the reasons for the changes. In pragmatic approaches; product capacity, practical use and dominance factors positively; service, ergonomics, action process and dominance emerged as sub-factors explaining the reasons for the negative changes.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
