A reflectarray using multiresonant elements adjusted by an optimization routine is proposed. The element composed of two pairs of a ring and a circular patch shows 13008 phase variation range with linear slope. The phase of each elements on the reflectarray surface is selected by an optimization routine based on PSO to minimize the total phase error throughout a predetermined band (21-23 GHz). Optimized and nonoptimized reflect arrays are fabricated and measured. The 1 dB bandwidth of the proposed reflectarray is 9.7%, which is over three times to that of a nonoptimized reflectarray.
