Fused pyrimidine derivatives R 0515 Halocyclization of Substituted 2-(Alkenylthio)pyrimidin-6-ones. -Halocyclization of the title alkenylthiopyrimidinones occurs selectively to furnish corresponding thiazolopyrimidinium [cf. (III)] or pyrimidothiazinium salts [cf. (V)] depending on the nature of the alkenyl substituent on the sulfur atom and the basicity of the pyrimidine nitrogen atoms. Propynylthiopyrimidine analogue (VII) also suffers selective halocyclization when treated with bromine or iodine to afford thiazolidinopyrimidinium salt (VIII). -(SLIVKA, N. Y.; GEVAZA, Y.
