This article outlines how the body produces medically unexplained symptoms (MUS). The BodyMind Approache (TBMAe) is a suggested therapeutic intervention for disrupting the expression of MUS. This is discussed in three main sections, each section relating to the previous one. First, the models of dissociation and conversion are expanded from a basis of personal construct psychology in which the body is related to psychological activities. Second, the way to release physical symptoms is to raise the levels of the awareness, in which preverbal constructs and suspended events effecting the generation of MUS are embodied. Third, TBMAe is proposed as an appropriate treatment intervention. The reasons for this are discussed by explaining how the therapeutic process breaks down dissociation and conversion models.
Highlights The movement characteristics and the psychological constructs of women with depression in Taiwan are explored. Initial results show that women with depression use less sagittal movement than women without depression. Results also show that the distances between social roles and actual/ideal self are correlated to depression. The interpretation of the research results is that women with depression in Taiwan might experience difficulties in finding themselves while maintaining stressful social connections and striving to meet society's expectations on the social roles they are expected to play.
The rapid growth of weblog (blog) services has induced Internet users to share their feelings and information via blogs. Few researchers are currently investigating why people blog. In this study, we explored the antecedents and consequences of blogging behaviors. We collected 613 valid responses to an online survey from blog users. Factor analysis was conducted to confirm 3 antecedents of using blogs as social motivations, goal orientation, and entertainment orientation. We identified 3 key blogging behaviors of basic journaling, more advanced publishing, and interactive feedback. Social and information return were identified as the 2 major effects of blogging behaviors. The results of structural equation modeling showed that social motivations and entertainment orientation had significant impacts on all 3 blogging behaviors and goal orientation positively influenced advanced publishing and interactive feedback. Implications and limitations are discussed.
