Abstract. The intertwined influence of both local and global phenomena toward the disturbance of environment requires immediate awareness of all; including also designers, architects, and building contractors. Yet, it is hardly to find concrete application in the field of interior design that embeds ecological approach on buildings, especially for the case of Indonesia. To address the issue, this study looks into several buildings in Java that have applied ecologicalapproach, a balanced-way between human, space, and environment. Having the purpose to investigate and to compare applied ecological-approaches of each building, the results are aimed to provide applicable-examples and/or a referential model for ecological building in Indonesia. Henry HCM Christiaans's cyclical-applied research was adopted as a method for the study, which consists of practical problem, diagnosis, plan, intervention, and evaluation. The compared results of each selected building and their examples of environmental approach are presented and discussed. Keywords: applied ecological approach; eco-interior; human-space-environment. PendahuluanSejak tahun 1995, European Environment Agency merumuskan isu besar lingkungan yang dihadapi dunia [1], yaitu: perubahan iklim, berkurangnya lapisan ozone, pencemaran permukaan tanah dan air, polusi dan penurunan kualitas udara, manajemen buangan (sampah, limbah), isu urban, menurunnya sumberdaya air tanah, zona pantai dan air laut, manajemen resiko (baik yang disebabkan oleh manusia maupun bencana), dan berkurangnya kualitas permukaan tanah dan keanekaraman hayati.Seiring terbentangnya abad yang baru ini, dua perkembangan yang akan amat berpengaruh terhadap kemanusiaan, yaitu kapitalisme global dan ecodesign untuk masyarakat berkelanjutan akan terpasang pada jalur yang bertabrakan [2]. Karena itu diperlukan pemahaman dan upaya konkrit yang seimbang diantara keduanya. Desainer atau perencana bertanggungjawab atas hampir semua produk, peralatan, dan kesalahan yang terjadi terhadap lingkungan [3].

Many previous studies regarding computer aided architectural design (CAAD) software for design have been developed with reference to how the CAAD software (in this case: AutoCAD, SketchUp and Rhinoceros) will benefit the students while learning to 2D-3D modeling design. The purpose of this study aims to identify the first year students’ perspective regarding the 2D-3D modeling software usability. A total of 127 first year interior design students participated in the study. After finishing the course about CAAD software, they completed a survey using System Usability Scale (SUS) and polling method. After that the data was analyzed and measured. Statically, the findings show that there a difference usability between SketchUp – AutoCAD, but not so different between SketchUp – Rhinoceros and AutoCAD – Rhinoceros; secondly SketchUp is less usability than the AutoCAD and Rhinoceros. But using the survey polling, the findings show that most students will be using SketchUp for their 3D modeling design. Possibly not occurring significant result is because: the students may not really understand the System Usability Scale (the greater showed negative usability) and ambiguous perception in the questionnaire statement

The waste of building construction materials usually consist of iron and wood, which are frequently in the form of bits and pieces and thus appear to be unuseful for future building construction. Generally, they can only be used to create small products such as art and craft. Challenging this issue, this paper explores the case of using waste materials from building construction to become new building construction materials by specific treatments and experimental techniques of architectural design. The design thinking process and the effort in actualizing a House of Creativity named "Rempah Rumah Karya" became the objects of this exploration study. Discussions are presented here as efforts to explore ideas, processes, and actualization techniques in the context of reusing waste materials. The result is a self-critical design report of the aesthetically unique building design as a place of creativity and cultural activities in the city of Solo, Central Java, Indonesia.
