The pandemic situation in the last two years has forced us to move almost all activities online, including our teaching and learning activities. This creates challenges for teachers to discover suitable techniques or media to motivate students to keep being active in online class interaction. One of the possible media that can be used is songs; a media which is already popular among the youths. This paper presented a data survey towards 107 female students aged 19-20 years old from one of the midwifery academies situated in Central Java, Indonesia. This study used an online questionnaire form. There were 18 items in the questionnaire and the data consisted of demographic data and students’ perception towards the use of songs for improving their skills in English. The data were presented in the percentage data and analyzed using descriptive explanation. The result showed that the students’ perception on songs as media for English online learning achieved positive perception on all items. Referring to this finding, teachers can consider using songs for English online learning in order to create an attractive and interactive online learning process.
The emergency remote learning due to COVID-19 pandemic and the government strategy to move the lesson into online mode make language learning technologies play an important role to help students achieving the goals of learning. WhatsApp application as one of learning media offers some benefits that can be utilized by the students and teachers to achieve this goal. This study aimed at knowing the midwifery and nursing students‘ perception on the use of WhatsApp as the media of English teaching and learning process in the context of Emergency Remote Learning (ERL). This paper presented data survey towards 183 students of nursing and midwifery departments at Poltekkes Kemenkes Malang. The instrument of this study was an online questionnaire designed based on the literature review and administered to the participants through class‘s WhatsApp Group. There were 25 items in the questionnaire and the content was conveyed the demographic data and students’ perception towards the use of WhatsApp application that helped them mastering four English language skills and components as well as getting scoring and feedback. The data were presented in the percentage data and analyzed using descriptive explanation. The finding showed that students’ perception on WhatsApp as learning media in English online learning in ERL context gained highly positive perception on all items. Based on this result, teachers can utilize all features on WhatsApp to design meaningful learning in the time of emergency remote teaching and learning.
After a year more of living with COVID-19, the teachers’ and students’ resilience is still demanding, particularly regarding language online learning. Both parties must keep struggling to fulfill the learning requirements in times of crisis. One of the challenges in language issues is teaching English for Specific Purpose (ESP) in higher education during emergency remote learning (ERL) including teaching ESP at Poltekkes Kemenkes Malang in 2020-2021. At these times, ESP teachers have to design the materials by taking a lot of consideration regarding the students’ needs, goals, learning model, activities, tools, and feedback that met the emergency due to Coronavirus outbreak. They planned, implemented, and evaluated the learning process until they can find the best ones for the students. This study was a survey research with 23 participants of ESP lecturers. This article presented some best practices of teaching ESP in the online mode during ERL as the best experience of ESP lecturers, in the hope that it will be able to give some new insights for fellow educators to help them to provide better learning experiences for the students.
Hypertension is one of the chronic diseases that many people suffer from in the working area of ??Karangan Health Center. During the pandemic, cadres have a vital role when people are afraid to visit health services, so cadres are expected to be active in overcoming problems experienced by sufferers, including preventing the emergence of complications of Hypertension. This community service activity aimed to increase cadres' knowledge, understanding, and skills to prevent Hypertension complications. This community service method was pre and post-test, counseling, training (training on how to measure blood pressure, training on how to do counseling) to cadres, and distributing tensimeters to cadres. The number of cadres who were targeted in this community service activity was 25 cadres from several villages under the authorization of Puskesmas Karangan. The results of community service based on observation and evaluation were increased knowledge of cadres about Hypertension and its complications, the cadres had skills in measuring blood pressure, understood how to provide information to the community related to Hypertension, understood how to prevent complications with exercise/gymnastic activities. Community service in the form of training and counseling in the Puskesmas Karangan generally brought benefits. Cadres had the motivation to provide information to patients to prevent Hypertension and took blood pressure for patients who could not make visits to the Puskesmas. ABSTRAKPenyakit hipertensi merupakan salah satu penyakit kronis yang banyak diderita oleh masyarakat di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Karangan. Pada masa pandemi kader memiliki peran sangat penting disaat masyarakat takut melakukan kunjungan ke layanan kesehatan, sehingga kader diharapkan aktif untuk berperan dalam mengatasi masalah yang dialami oleh penderita, termasuk dalam mencegah munculnya komplikasi hipertensi. kegiatan pengabmas ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, pemahaman dan juga ketrampilan kader dalam upaya pencegahan komplikasi penyakit hipertensi. Metode pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah pre dan post test, penyuluhan, pelatihan (pelatihan cara mengukur tekanan darah, pelatihan cara melakukan penyuluhan) kepada para kader, serta pembagian tensimeter kepada kader. Jumlah kader yang menjadi sasaran dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini 25 kader dari beberapa desa di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Karangan. Hasil dari pengabdian masyarakat berdasarkan observasi dan evaluasi adalah peningkatan pengetahuan kader tentang hipertensi dan komplikasinya, kader memiliki ketrampilan dalam melakukan pengukuran tekanan darah, kader mengetahui cara memberikan informasi pada masyarakat yang berhubungan dengan hipertensi, kader mengetahui cara mencegah komplikasi dengan latihan/aktivitas senam. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat berupa pelatihan dan penyuluhan yang dilakukan di wilayah Puskesmas Karangan secara umum memberikan manfaat pada kader dan masyarakat. Kader memiliki motivasi untuk memberikan informasi pada penderita untuk melakukan pencegahan hipertensi, serta bersedia untuk melakukan pengukuran tekanan darah bagi penderita yang tidak dapat melakukan kunjungan ke puskesmas.
Myopia is a condition in which distant object appears blurry and cannot be displayed clearly to the retina. The study aimed to find out Myopia cases in children of school-aged in Trenggalek. Myopia is one of the main causes of the decreasing of sharp vision ability in children of school-aged, meanwhile a good vision is very essential in learning process. Information input to the brain is around 95% through the sense of sight.This observation used cross-sectional design. The subjects of this research were 292 participants. The data collection technique used census sampling. The study used instrument of questionnaire and was analyzed through virus examination and hypothesis used chi square. Myopia case among children of school aged was 21.9%, There was 61% of female students and 39% of male students. 79.7% had genetic factor and 67% had near-sight of 5 – 10 hours and 62.5% had distant-sight more than 3 hours. The result of correlation test of gender and myopia found p-value was 0.003, genetic factor of p-value was 0.000, and the p-value of length of time of distant sight was 0.000. There was correlation of gender, genetic factor, duration of near and distant sight and myopia in children of school-aged. To prevent the case of myopia, it is recommended to pay attention to those factors.
