Foodborne infectious diseases are seen around the world. One of the most common contaminants found in chicken meat products is Campylobacter jejuni. This study tries to: To assess the utilization of Mint extract in various concentrations as natural antimicrobial against C. jejueni, 100 chicken samples were collected From the city center of AL- Diwaniyah, 50 samples of fresh poultry meat and 50 samples of frozen poultry meat, and the evaluation was done on them after preparation.The antimicrobial activity of methanolic, ethanolic, and aqueous extracts of mint was evaluated in multi-well micro-titer plates using the well diffusion method. Mint extract was evaluated for antimicrobial property against C. jejuni at different concentrations (80%, 40%, and 20%), and the highest inhibitory effect was observed in the ethanolic extract of mint, followed by the methanolic extract, while the aqueous extract was active only at a high concentration of 80% using the well diffusion method. Due to the biologically active properties of the compounds in mint, which are antimicrobial, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antioxidant, and antifungal, mint extracts exhibit biological activity against C. jejueni.
This study was conducted in one of the commercial poultry farms for study the effect of dietary supplementation of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L) and Fennel (Foeniculum vulgares) seed powder and their mixture in improvement the production and physiological performance of broiler. In this experiment we used 120 chick of Hubbard at one day old and distributed randomly to four treatments with three replicates for each treatment and was given two types of diets, The first is starter that have been feeding from the 1-22 day age old and finisher that have been feeding from 23-45 day age old. The control group included the chicks that feeding on the basal diet without any additive.T1 which included the group of chicks that feeding on the basal diet plus 5% of coriander seed powder, While T2 included the group of chicks that feeding on the basal diet plus 5% of fennel seed powder then T3which included the group of chicks that feeding on the basal diet plus the mixture of 2.5% of coriander seed powder and 2.5 % of fennel seed powder. The results showed the present of a significant effect (p<0.05) of adding coriander and fennel seed powder and their mixture in the broiler diet in the body weight, weight gain ,feed conversion ratio, feed intake ,carcass and internal organs weight compared with the control group as well as the results showed no significant difference (p>0.05) in dressing percentage, heart weight and serum protein concentration between different treatments ,while we saw a significant decrease (P<0.05) in concentration of glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides and uric acid in blood serum of treatments compared to the control group. In this study, we conclude that the dietary supplementation of coriander and fennel seed powder and their mixture lead to improve the production and physiological performance of broiler.
This study was to investigate study the effect of adding the aqueous extract of clove (Eugenia caryophyllus) by two different levels to drink water to improve the productive efficiency and some physiological characteristics of the broiler. The study was carried out on 180 chicks of Hubbard at one day old. They were divided randomly into three groups (60 bird in each group) with three replicates for each group (20 bird for each replicate. In this experment, the bird was given two types of diets, the first diet was a starter that has been feeding on the 1-2٢ day age-old , whereas the second diet was finisher that has been feeding on 2٣-4٨ day age-old. The experimental treatments divided into three groups. In control group, birds drink free water without any addition. In group T1, birds received 1% of aqueous extract of clove flower in drinking water, whereas group T2 received 5% of aqueous extract of clove flower in drinking water. The current study showed a significant improvement (p <0.05) in the production efficiency of birds. Its included weight of the body, weight gain, feed conversion ratio, feed and water consumption rate, decrease in mortality rate and improvement in some blood traits including haemoglobin, white blood cell WBC, packed cell volume PCVin treatment groups(T1, T2) compared with control group. As well as the results showed a significant decrease (P <0.05) in the glucose level, cholesterol, urea and creatinine in both
