This study was conducted to investigate the effect of flaxseed on some biochemical characteristics represented by ALT, AST ALP, enzymes, as well as to determine glutathione and malondialdehyde levels and body weight of birds which ranged between (175-200)g, (60-70) days old. Male Quail birds were divided into five groups 5 birds-group. Flaxseeds were used after grinding in different concentrations as capsules of (250, 500, 1000, 2000) mg/kg of body weight. The birds were treated daily with that flaxseeds powder. Results showed a good improvement in the biochemical qualities as well as a rise in the level of glutathione and the reduction of MDA level in addition to lowering the body weights of birds, especially in the group given 2000 mg/kg of body weight.
The present study was performed to detect the biochemical properties of ten types of honey bees (Black Bean, Forests, Rosemary, Thyme, Citrus, Willow, Acacia, Sidr, Pine and Mountain) which were collected from different pasture areas. The level of glutathione, malondialdehyde, activity of acid phosphatase, calcium, glucose, total protein and albumin were measured. The results showed a significant increase in the glutathione and calcium level and a significant reduction in the malondialdehyde of dark honey samples (honey of forests, pine and Black Bean) compared with other honey types. Honey with more acidity (Citrus and Willow) showed a significant increase in acidic phosphatase compared with other samples. The results also showed a significance increase in glucose level and a significant reduction in the level of total protein and albumin for honey types (Acacia, Rosemary, Willow, Citrus and Thyme) compared with other types (forests, Black Bean, Mountain, pine and Sidr). In conclusion, honey varies in its components according to the variation in flowers nectar and this leads to a variation in its biochemical components even in a low ratio. In addition to the superiority of the dark honey type (forests, pine and Black Bean) in antioxidants and food value comparison with other light-color honey samples (Citrus, Willow, Acacia and Rosemary).
A study of 105 women (40non-pregnant women [control group] and 65pregnant women) attending the child and maternal health center in Mosul, included determination of trace element (zinc, copper, manganese, magnesium and iron)in pregnant women and their effect on the three trimesters of pregnancy and in multiple pregnancy. The results showed significantly lower concentration of serum zinc, manganese, magnesium and iron in pregnant women compared with non-pregnant women at P=0.0001, P=0.05, P=0.005, Pd ≤ 0.001 respectively, while concentration of serum copper clamp up through pregnancy, and the results showed significantly lower concentration of serum zinc in the 1 st and 2 nd trimesters of pregnancy women compared with non-pregnant women at P<0.05, P<0.005 respectively and significantly lower concentration of serum manganese and magnesium in the 2 nd and 3 rd trimesters of pregnancy women compared with non-pregnant women at P<0.005, P<0.001 respectively. On the other hand, showed significantly lower concentration of serum iron in the three trimesters of pregnancy women compared with non-pregnant women at P<0.05, P<0.005, P<0.001 respectively. Finally the results showed in pregnant women low concentration of serum zinc and iron in multiple pregnancy compared with first pregnancy and high concentration of copper in multiple pregnancy compared with first pregnancy, while concentration of manganese and magnesium stay equal in spite of multiple pregnancy.
The investigation indicated the presence and the properties of cytidine deaminase(EC.3.5.4.5) activity in extract of the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis grown in Diamond's TYM medium. The optimum conditions for the enzyme activity was determined and enzyme activity was obtained in a reaction mixture of (400)µM of Tris-HCl buffer at pH (7.2) containing (7) mM of cytidine as a substrate and an amount of the enzyme ranging from (200-250)µg of the enzyme extract, and an incubation period of (10) min. at (37)°C. Under the optimum conditions, the specific activity was found to be (17.5) mM of cytidine deaminated per min/ mg protein in the supernatant of Trichomonas vaginalis extracts. the investigated Results of the properties of the cytidine deaminase activity showed that cytidine monophosphatet(CMP)might function as alternative substrate for enzyme activity.
