Background: Providing information for myocardial infarction patients is an important nursing function and is part of the role of health-care professionals delivering cardiac education. It is essential to acknowledge and incorporate the self-perceived needs of patients into the information they receive. Hospital stays are becoming shorter, reducing the opportunities for nurses to provide pre-discharge information to patients. This highlights the challenge of adequately assessing and meeting patients' Learning needs. Aims and objectives: To explore the Learning needs of patients who have received treatment for a myocardial infarction before their hospital discharge. Also, to examine differences in learning needs among patients according to their demographic characteristics. Materials and methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional, design was used to answer the research questions. A convenient sample of 55 patients interviewed in a coronary care unit at large northwestern hospital in Saudi Arabia. Cardiac Patients Learning Needs Inventory (CPLNI) was used to collect data. Results: Information about risk factors, anatomy and physiology, and medication were the most valued information by MI patients prior to discharge. There was a statistically significant difference between patients' total learning needs according to their socio-demographic characteristics. Younger patients needed more information than older ones. Highly educated patients needed more information than those in the uneducated group. Conclusion: This study suggests that MI patients have high learning needs within 24-48 h before hospital discharge. In addition, patients' learning needs vary according to their demographic characteristics. Relevance to clinical practice: Assessment of MI patients' information needs before their discharge from hospital helps in developing effective cardiac educational programme that will help these patients in their recovery at home.
The evolution of information technology has exerted great influence on nursing education via new pedagogy of knowledge delivery without time and place restriction. Mobile technology revolutionises nursing education and clinical practice via empowering skills of critical thinking and clinical decision-making through learning. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of using mobile messenger (Whatsapp) as an educational supporting tool among nursing students. The study design used is a Cluster Randomized Control Trail. Two nursing colleges were selected. Sample size was 93 participants, 48 from the Kuala Terengganu Nursing College Kuala Terengganu as the intervention group while the control group were recruited among 45 participants from UniSZA Nursing College. There is a significant difference in the level of knowledge between pre and posttest among intervention group (mean difference was -8.70 with a standard deviation 8.42, p-value< 0.001) and 93.8 percent of the respondents perceived the usefulness of using WhatsApp mobile messenger to enhance learning. This demonstrates that learning through mobile messenger (WhatsApp) enhances learning and is well received as a new method of learning by almost all students. Pain management is very crucial in nursing care. However due to lack of overall understanding, pain management by health professional is scarce. Therefore, knowledge and attitude of nurses towards effective management of pain in care post-operative care is pertinent. The effectiveness of postoperative nursing care is a basic part of a healthcare worker. The type of post-operative management emphasized in this article consists of the pain assessment and pain management by pharmacological and non-pharmacological tools. Post-operative follow-up care is required to alleviate pain and restore knee features and functions. The primary duty of nurses in postoperative care is to acknowledge preparation and implement suitable treatment. This article aims to provide information on increasing nurses’ knowledge in managing pain for post-operative care of Total Knee Replacement. Searches were performed by using electronic database for full text article in English language, original article published between 2000 and 2021. The database includes Springer, PubMed, British Medical Journal, Malaysian Orthopaedic Journal, SAGE Pub and ProQuest.
Aims. To investigate, before to hospital discharge, the educational needs of Jordanian patients who have had coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Design: A quantitative, correlational design. Methods: Before leaving the Jordanian Hospital, 120 CABG patients had their data gathered using a modified version of the Cardiac Patients Learning Needs Inventory (CPLNI) instrument. Results: Prior to discharge, CABG patients were found to appreciate information on chest and leg wound care, medication information, other important information, and complications the most. Conclusion. According to this study, CABG patients have significant information needs in the 24-48 hours before being released from the hospital. Additionally, this study's findings revealed that the education needs of patients varied statistically significantly depending on their demographic factors.
Maternity services in Malaysia are at a better level than before. However, there are still needs in certain aspects related to the issue of customer satisfaction, the right of privacy in seeking treatment, the right in choosing doctor and nurse, facilities that support good services and the resolution of maternity issues from an Islamic point of view. Thus, this study analyzes the aspects needed in producing a framework of a holistic maternity treatment management model to address these issues. Data of the study were obtained through document analysis methods, semi -structured interviews and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The results of the study found that there are four aspects that need to be taken into account in the construction of a holistic maternity treatment management model. The model, called i-Maternity Care, presents the four aspects, namely: infrastructure, service providers, treatment handling procedures and management of maternity issues according to sharia. This holistic approach through i-Maternity Care model integrates the goal of meeting medical needs based on medical indications and considering the needs of clients in line with Islamic law.
