The collaboration of technology and media can have positive effects on teaching and learning. In modern teaching traditions, teachers must include technology into their teaching and must be able to select a suitable media so they can deliver lessons in the classroom effectively and can achieve the learning goal. This study is going to explore and elaborate the effectiveness of incorporating technology in learning process by using a media to get more engaging learning situation and to know its impacts to the students’ learning achievements, especially to their fluency and public speaking skill. To be specific, this study is trying to implement Video Blog (Vlog) as learning media in English speaking subject. The results of the observation show that, training students’ fluency and public speaking by implementing Vlog as learning media give positive impacts to the students. Vlog increases students’ encouragement in speaking. Vlog can provide fun and enjoyable learning process and it can build confidence.
The article attempts to scrutinize representation of motherhood in a novella “Silsilah Duka” by Dwi Ratih Ramadhani, a young Madurese writer. It tells about three female characters and their journey as mothers, which, later, create shattering events. In analyzing the data, this study applies patriarchal motherhood theory by Andrea O’Reilly. Qualitative approach with close reading method is applied. The results disclose that patriarchal motherhood is this novella is socially and culturally constructed.
Literacy culture of film and other literary works such as novel or drama among santriwati (muslim women living and studying in pesantren) is interesting to discuss since they have unique characteristics. They are living and learning religiosity in pesantren and at the same time they are studying sciences in college or university. Normally, living in pesantren is tied by a strict religious norms and traditions. There are certain rules as santri that they oblige to obey. On the other hand, as university students, dealing with more flexible and open culture is unavoidable. They need reading references, watching films and enjoying novels or other literary works as part of campus life. This paper tries to examine how literacy culture among santriwati relates to their identity expression. It also aims at identifying the form of identity expression expressed by santriwati in Madura. There are 15 santriwati from different pesantren in Madura to be observed and asked as the respondents. Qualitative research is applied in this study as it explains particular cases and phenomena in certain area by using words and sentences. The results of this study indicate that the literacy culture of film among santriwati to some extent relate to their identity expression although they could hardly express it through their behavior as common people. This slight relation is because of their strong commitment to the religious norms and values that strongly encourage them to express their identity expression as a good santri.
This study aims to reveal the situation of post human and the description of female cyborg in JP Delaney's novel The Perfect Wife, it also explains how the relationship between humans and cyborgs in this novel. The theory of cyborgism by Donna Harraway is applied to analyze the representation of post humanism as articulated through a female cyborg character. In addition, it is worth-studied as the female cyborg character is positioned in the context of husband-wife marriage. However, this study focuses on two descrition of the female cyborg who is predominantly influenced by typical gender stereotyping.Qualitative research is taken as the approach of this study. Data collection is mostly obtained by close reading technique, while the data analysis is done by applying the theory to analyze the texts taken from author’s narration and characters’ utterances within the novel. The results of this study confirm that the female cyborg character is created by a human has a great potential to replace the role of a human being physically, intellectually and abilities, and the relationship that occurs between cyborgs and humans. It also affirms that the female cyborg presented in the novel is created to satisfy man’s need and characterized to possess typical and stereotypical woman.
