The rapid development in this country has opened many opportunities for secondary school leavers to pursue their study at a higher level. The selection process of place and course of study has also become more challenging as higher learning intuitions offer variety of quality and competitive programs. The study is quantitative in nature which focussed on the questionnaire instrument. The core objective of this study is to identify the pull factors among the students in selecting first degree study program in Islamic studies field in the Faculty of Islamic Civilization Studies as well as analysing the students‟ perception after the enrolling in the studies. The study involved 145 students of the Faculty of Islamic Civilization Studies, Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS). The study findings showed the main pulling factor among the students in selecting Islamic studies field was because the study program offers the integration between the worldly knowledge and the hereafter. Meanwhile the study findings regarding the medium of information about the study program in the Faculty of Islamic Civilization Studies was through friends followed by school councillors and internet source. Next, the perception of the students of the Faculty of Islamic Civilization Studies showed they believe in the KUIS credibility in producing excellent and quality graduates. All in all, the findings analysis showed one of the factors that influenced students in selecting study program in Islamic studies field in the Faculty of Islamic Civilization Studies, KUIS was the program quality meet the needs for knowledge, faith and practice appreciation. Abstrak Perkembangan pendidikan yang pesat di negara ini telah membuka banyak peluang kepada pelajar lepasan menengah untuk menyambung pengajian ke peringkat yang lebih tinggi. Proses membuat pemilihan tempat dan kursus juga menjadi semakin sukar kerana institusi pengajian tinggi menawarkan pelbagai pilihan program berkualiti dan berdaya saing. Kajian ini berbentuk kajian kuantitatif iaitu, memfokuskan kepada instrumen soal selidik. Tujuan utama kajian ini adalah untuk mengenal pasti faktor tarikan pelajar memilih program pengajian di peringkat sarjana muda dalam bidang pengajian Islam di Fakulti Pengajian Peradaban Islam serta menganalisis persepsi pelajar selepas mengikuti pengajian. Kajian ini melibatkan 145 pelajar Fakulti Pengajian Peradaban Islam, Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS). Dapatan kajian menunjukkan faktor utama tarikan pemilihan pelajar dalam bidang pengajian Islam adalah kerana program pengajian yang ditawarkan mempunyai kesepaduan ilmu dunia dan akhirat. Manakala hasil kajian terhadap penggunaan medium maklumat program pengajian di Fakulti Pengajian Peradaban Islam adalah melalui rakan diikuti kaunselor sekolah, dan sumber internet. Seterusnya, persepsi pelajar Fakulti Pengajian Peradaban Islam menunjukkan mereka mempunyai keboleh percayaan terhadap reputasi KUIS dalam melahirkan graduan yang cemerlang dan berkualiti. Secara keseluruhannya, analisis dapatan menunjukkan kualiti program yang menepati keperluan penghayatan ilmu, iman, dan amal adalah antara faktor yang mempengaruhi pemilihan pelajar ke program pengajian dalam bidang pengajian Islam di Fakulti Pengajian Peradaban Islam, KUIS.
Penyertaan golongan OKU pendengaran dalam sebarang program berkaitan pembangunan kekeluargaan Islam adalah sangat terhad dan terbatas termasuk penyertaan mereka dalam kursus pra dan pasca perkahwinan disebabkan kurangnya kemudahan untuk menyertai program-program berkaitan. Komitmen dan penyertaaan OKU pendengaran dalam program-program tersebut banyak bergantung kepada inisiatif dan kerjasama pihak badan bukan kerajaan (NGO) sama ada NGO yang terlibat dengan OKU pendengaran secara langsung atau tidak langsung. Oleh yang demikian kajian ini bertujuan mengenalpasti peranan NGO sebagai sistem sokongan kekeluargaan Islam bagi golongan OKU pendengaran dan mengenalpasti NGO-NGO yang berperanan memberikan pendedahan atau program-program kekeluargaan kepada golongan OKU pendengaran. Kajian ini merupakan kajian kualitatif lapangan melibatkan metode pengumpulan data melalui perbincangan meja bulat (Round Table Discussion/RTD) melibatkan informan yang terdiri daripada wakil NGO OKU, ahli akademik, wakil Jabatan Agama Iskam Negeri-negeri, wakil Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia sebagai penggubal MBKPPI, wakil Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat dan wakil Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara (LPPKN). Kajian mendapati badan-badan NGO memainkan peranan yang sangat penting membantu kerajaan dan golongan OKU pendengaran sendiri dalam usaha meningkatkan kualiti insititusi kekeluargaan Islam golongan tersebut melalui program-program yang sesuai. The participation of hearing impaired people in any program related to Islamic family development is very limited and limited, including their participation in pre- and post-marriage courses due to the lack of facilities to participate in related programs. The commitment and participation of the hearing impaired in the programs depends a lot on the initiative and cooperation of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) whether NGOs are involved with the hearing impaired directly or indirectly. Therefore, this study aims to identify the role of NGOs as a support system for the disabled in the development of Muslim families among them. This study is a qualitative field study involving the method of data collection through a round table discussion (Round Table Discussion/RTD) involving informants consisting of representatives of NGOs with disabilities, academics, representatives of the State Religious Affairs Department, representatives of the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia as drafters of MBKPPI, representatives of the Social Welfare Department and representatives of the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN). The study found that NGOs play a very important role in helping the government and the hearing impaired themselves in an effort to improve the quality of Islamic family institutions for the group through appropriate programs.
The Syariah Court in Malaysia possesses executive jurisdiction in deciding upon matters related to creed and religious status. The jurisdiction aims to restrain the signs of heresy and renunciation of religion of Islam among Muslims. Nevertheless, the creed restoration practice (istitabah) for the state level renunciation of religion of Islam application cases is still unclear. This study aims to analyse the procedure after the application to renounce religion of Islam is received at Syariah Court and the process of creed restoration that is instructed upon an applicant prior to the Syariah Court decision. This study used document analysis approach by conducting specialized observation on the law provisions and renunciation of religion of Islam cases as well as the restoration modules in the centre of creed restoration. The outcomes of the study found that the creed restoration practice was conducted in the form of creed counselling or detention at the centre of creed restoration depending on the instruction from the Syariah Court Judge after the acceptance of religious status application cases. There were no clear and standardized law provisions regarding repentance order (istitabah) at state level. The study also provides the implications and several recommendations for improvement of the creed restoration practice. ABSTRAK Mahkamah Syariah di Malaysia mempunyai bidang kuasa eksklusif dalam memutuskan perkara-perkara berkaitan persoalan akidah dan status agama. Bidang kuasa ini bertujuan mengekang gejala ajaran sesat dan murtad dalam kalangan orang Islam. Walau bagaimanapun, amalan istitabah bagi kes-kes permohonan keluar agama Islam masih kurang jelas di peringkat negeri. Kajian ini bertujuan menganalisis prosedur selepas penerimaan permohonan keluar agama Islam di Mahkamah Syariah dan proses istitabah yang diperintahkan kepada pemohon sebelum Mahkamah Syariah membuat keputusan. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan analisis dokumen dengan membuat tinjauan khusus terhadap peruntukan undang-undang dan kes-kes permohonan keluar agama Islam serta modul pemulihan di pusat pemulihan akidah. Hasil kajian mendapati amalan istitabah dibuat dalam bentuk kaunseling akidah atau tahanan di pusat pemulihan akidah bergantung kepada perintah hakim Mahkamah Syariah selepas penerimaan kes-kes permohonan status agama. Tiada peruntukan undang-undang yang jelas dan seragam mengenai perintah taubat (istitabah) di peringkat negeri. Implikasi dan beberapa cadangan untuk penambahbaikan amalan istitabah ini juga diberikan.
