Successful implementation of virtual healthcare depends immensely on patients’ perceptions and satisfaction. This cross-sectional study assessed patients’ perceptions of, and factors associated with, poor and average satisfaction with the outpatient telemedicine clinics in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). This questionnaire-based survey was conducted among 720 patients who attended outpatient telemedicine clinics from different regions of the KSA. Of the sample studied, 54.7% of the participants had high satisfaction and the most common disadvantage perceived by patients was technical issues (53.1%), followed by fewer personal interactions (30.4%). Around 75% of the participants desired to use telemedicine services even after the COVID-19 pandemic. Logistic regression analysis revealed that age group more than 40 years (OR = 1.59; 95% CI = 1.04–2.44, p = 0.031), education less than university level (OR = 1.68; 95% CI = 1.07–2.15, p = 0.025), and first-time participants (OR = 3.28; 95% CI = 2.32–4.65, p < 0.001) were significantly associated with poor and average satisfaction ratings. The concerned authorities must make targeted action plans to circumvent the disadvantages perceived by patients accessing telemedicine. Furthermore, a multicenter, exploratory study that compares the virtual clinic with other telemedicine services in the KSA is warranted.
Palmoplantar psoriasis, a clinical variant of plaque psoriasis, has a significant impact by causing deterioration in the social and functional aspects of patients’ lives. Numerous therapeutic interventions are available for palmoplantar psoriasis. Although emerging biological agents have had an enormous positive impact on chronic plaque psoriasis, studies assessing their effectiveness in the palmoplantar phenotype are limited in the literature. We therefore present a case report of a patient with a 10-year history of palmoplantar psoriasis, which has significantly impacted her occupational life. She was treated with Risankizumab, showing a significant and rapid improvement in her symptoms. We believe that Risankizumab could be one of the most effective therapeutic interventions in the clinical context where rapid clearance of palmoplantar psoriasis is required.
Introduction: Eczema is a very common dermatological disorder that affects children at a high rate and this condition can alter the quality of life by disturbing the sleep activity, cause anxiety, and depressive manifestations. The present survey aimed to assess the self reported prevalence of eczema and its associated factors among the under five aged children. Methodology: This is a cross sectional study conducted at the northern regions of Saudi Arabia (KSA). By using consecutive sampling method, 578 randomly selected participants from the northern KSA completed the pretested data collection. We have applied logistic regression analysis to identify the predictors for the self reported eczema. Results: The results revealed that Eczema among the children was significantly related to mother's education (OR [95% CI] = 1.91 [1.23 -2.57], p = 0.008), family history of bronchial asthma (OR [95% CI] = 0.71 [0.58 -0.93], p = 0.013), and family history of eczema (OR [95% CI] = 4.32 [2.61 -6.96], p= 0.001). Regarding environmental factors, eczema was significantly related to presence of pet animals in the house (OR [95% CI] = 1.68 [1.32 -2.71], p = 0.001) and history of food allergy (OR [95% CI] = 3.71 [2.33 -5.83], p<0.001). Conclusion: The present survey's results recommend that the concerned authorities to plan focused health awareness raising campaigns for the public regarding eczema and predisposing factors. Furthermore, exploratory research is warranted to identify the region specific requirements for health education programs.
Background: Laser hair removal (LHR) is a common procedure for the removal of unwanted hair. Although it is generally safe, it is associated with some adverse effects including hyperpigmentation. Purpose: In this study, we aimed to assess the prevalence of postlaser hyperpigmentation in patients taking Vitamin D supplements. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of patients who underwent LHR. Each patient was interviewed and asked about their intake of Vitamin D supplements, and the primary outcome was whether hyperpigmentation was reported after LHR in the past 6 months. LHR treatment details were also documented. Results: A total of 508 patients were included with a mean age of 29 ± 9 years. Post-LHR hyperpigmentation was more prevalent in females and in those taking oral Vitamin D. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that Vitamin D intake was independently associated with more risk of hyperpigmentation post LHR (odds ratio [95% confidence interval]; 2.6 [1.17–5.80], P = 0.020). Conclusion: Vitamin D intake may be associated with an increased risk of hyperpigmentation post LHR. Causality cannot be assessed.
