The basic objectives of higher technical education consist of providing college and university graduates with a system of essential knowledge, abilities, and skills, and also of developing their capacity and readiness to put their knowledge to work in professional activity. In studies that have to do with the modernization of higher technical education, there are two directions that are applicable to these objectives. The first direction, which can be called the fundamentalization of education, consists of searching for ways to improve the quality of the fundamental training of the future engineer, the quality of his basic, system-forming stock of knowledge. Вследствие стремительного развития информационных компьютерных технологий и их широкого применения в образовании множество технологий, созданных на основе ИКТ, всё активнее применяются в учебном процессе. Одной из таких технологий является геймификация – использование игровой механики для вовлечения учащихся в решение образовательных задач. В данном докладе анализируются возможности применения геймификации в преподавании иностранного языка, а также преимущества, которые имеет использование этой образовательной технологии. Кроме того, рассматривается связь между применением геймификации в образовании и развитием у обучающихся учебной автономии - концепции, на которую во многом ориентировано современное образование.
