The rights of migrant workers and their experiences in host countries have been high on the political agendas of Europe and beyond. This article uses data from 138 semi‐structured interviews conducted with migrant workers in the UK, Russia and Ukraine to study their relationships with the police in host countries. We aim to contribute to the literature on policing and migration by analysing three different host countries, and the experience of temporary migrant workers regarding policing within each country. We suggest that the interplay between the experiences of policing in home and host countries can provide important insights into the practicalities of policing, but should not be considered apart from the context of the ethnic origin of migrant workers.
The current study examines the association between peer behaviors, self-efficacy, and internalizing symptoms in a sample of 1545 children aged 11 to 13 years old who attended middle schools in eastern Ukraine. We used structural equation modeling (SEM) to examine the role of self-efficacy in the relationship between child internalizing behaviors (anxiety, depression, and somatic complaints) and exposure to prosocial and antisocial friends among girls and boys. Higher self-efficacy was linked with fewer internalizing symptoms for girls and boys. For both boys and girls, exposure to prosocial friends was not statistically associated with changes in internalizing behaviors. However, girls and boys who reported having more antisocial friends had significantly more internalizing symptoms. For girls, association with a greater number of prosocial friends and fewer antisocial friends has been linked with higher self-efficacy and fewer internalizing symptoms. For boys, having more prosocial friends was also linked with higher self-efficacy and fewer internalizing symptoms; however, there was no statistically significant association between having more antisocial friends and self-efficacy. The study discusses the cultural and gender aspects of child socialization in the context of antisocial and prosocial friends, and the development of internalizing behavior problems.
Everyone is born equal and expects to be treated similarly before the law in cases involving criminal activity and other obligations. It is problematic to have some people immune to legal consequences because they enjoyed special treatment in the eyes of the legislation meant to protect them. The issue we must bring up is crucial, as there is always the need to conduct a thorough investigation into the commission of crimes to secure justice. However, the tendency is that as far as immunity is on the individual concerned, this would frustrate the prosecution process. In this vein, it was proposed that this study investigate how immunity relates to today's state of the law. We will look at an analytical approach to determine if immunity's status has changed due to the rise of modern legal science. The paper overviews the legal framework adopted in Ukraine concerning immunity given to certain public servants.
The problem of ensuring road traffic safety is becoming more and more acute and constantly requires measures to improve the systems of such safety. Technical progress, the emergence of a large number of vehicles increasingly leads to serious negative consequences. The complexity of the process of ensuring road traffic safety is that measures in this area should be carried out not only unilaterally by public administration agencies, but also by society in the whole. The purpose of the research is to rethink outdated points of view on the nature and list of really effective means of ensuring road traffic safety in today’s world, as well as to develop the author’s understanding of the term of “administrative and legal means of road traffic safety”. The conducted research allowed us to formulate the author’s vision of the concept of administrative and legal means of ensuring road traffic safety. It has been determined that modern technical progress requires updating the system of means of administrative and legal provision of road traffic safety. It has been also concluded that the present day requires the subjects of road traffic safety to create appropriate road conditions and to carry out systematic, complex, comprehensive educational work on the compliance with traffic rules. The emphasis has been placed on the fact that activities on ensuring road traffic safety are not limited to the mechanisms that state authorities are authorized to carry out, but are of comprehensive nature. The compliance with the principles of comprehensiveness and systematization in ensuring road traffic safety are the main postulates in creating safe conditions for road traffic participants.
