2D Ternary Chalcogenides

Abstract: Crystal structure and composition are strongly correlated to materials' properties and functionalities. In this section, we first introduce the crystal structures and corresponding properties 2D ternary chalcogenides have been extensively studied by researchers from materials science and nanotechnology because of their unique structures, novel chemical and physical properties, and great potential in nanoscale device applications. With the addition of a third element, these 2D ternary chalcogenides are anticipa… Show more

“…Compared to single or binary element materials, the added new element in ternary materials can tune their physical properties for more applications by changing the compositions. In addition, ternary chalcogenides have bandgaps in the range of 1.3–3.5 eV, allowing them to be better used at visible wavelengths, which exactly coincides the range of SERS detection. Although we cannot judge their SERS potential merely by the bandgaps.…”

“…Hitherto, some popular 2D materials, such as graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides, have been widely investigated for many years and the research enthusiasm for these 2D elements and binary compounds is still maintained . Recently, the investigation of ternary layered compounds with 2D feature has emerged . Compared to 2D elements and binary compounds, ternary layered compounds possess more tunability for physical and chemical properties due to more element species .…”
