3D thermal model and experimental validation of a low voltage three-phase busduct

Abstract: The thermal behavior of an industrial Low Voltage non-segregated three-phase busduct was analyzed by means of the comparison of a 3D numerical model with experimental results. This model has been carried out using COMSOL Multiphysics, software based on finite element method. The numerical model replicates the short-circuit test, using the same geometry configuration and the boundary conditions of the laboratory in which this assay was carried out. The standard IEC 61439 was applied, both in test and model, in … Show more

“…Recently, three-dimensional (3D) analysis has been used, obtaining results such as the ones reported from the tool FLUX 3D [77], in which the computation time has been quite long even when short cables are considered. Long computation time has also been indicated for the 3D model used in [90] for low-voltage power cables. A high computational burden is needed for obtaining detailed results in 3D FEM analysis, and this is the main limiting factor of FEM.…”

“…As a result, temperature might be viewed as a particularly important ageing factor for power electronics. Temperature accelerates the ageing of the insulation system in electrical equipment over long-term, exceptionally hot summer months and at fully loaded equipment [13,14,16]. Numerous studies of the temperature rise in the switchgear have been done on a simulation platform only.…”

“…Radiation is the process of transferring energy from the radiating body to other bodies in the vicinity. The radiating body is characterized by the emission of electromagnetic waves consisting of various wavelengths [16]. The wavelength range with the highest thermal energy transfer is from 0.4 to 10 µm.…”
