6.1: Invited Paper: Digital PV Link for a Next‐Generation Video Interface, and Its System Architecture

Abstract: This paper describes a high-level protocol with a packet format for video data. It not only improves data transmission, but also enhances system performance by enabling various kinds of data handling at different processing locations. From the viewpoint of the system architecture, this protocol makes it possible to mix various types of system such as PCs and other electronic deviceswith high-performance video data processing hardware. The functions of this protocol and its performance are explained with the co… Show more

“…If four DVI inputs are used, then depending upon the input data format, either a four-stripe mode or quad tile mode is selected. The reprogramable nature of the monitor interface allows for future input of dual-DVI signals and other new protocols, such as Digital Packetized Video Link (DVPL), 19 discussed later. In additional to the monitor interface, other portions of the monitor electronics are also reprogramable, such as EDID and controller section.…”

“…An alternative approach utilizes new digital data protocol, such as DVPL, 19 now proposed as a standard. A Bertha prototype monitor driven with DPVL protocol, was recently demonstrated.…”

“…Then we already presented the Digital Packet Video (Digital PV) Link for a super high-resolution display and introduced the basic concept of this system [4]. Because the only partial DATA is transmitted to the display from a PC system, then this Digital PV Link unit is not needed the parallel I/F sets.…”
