A calixarene based metal organic material, calixMOM, that binds potassium cations

Abstract: A porous calixarene-based metal organic material, calixMOM-1, has been prepared by using a custom designed tetradentate thiacalixarene which links manganese molecular building blocks. Potassium ions were introduced into the cavity of the thiacalixarene to afford calixMOM-2. Gas sorption properties of both compounds were studied.

“…Its second harmonic generation (SHG) response is equivalent to the one of urea. In contrast, a powder SHG response of only about 10% of that for urea was found for the naked calixarene ligands L37 (figure 35 [90], have also been mentioned, with SHG response being larger than the one of urea.…”

“…Among them, the compound H 4 L3 has been used in the formation of coordination polymers with 3d metals, such as Co(II) or Mn(II), and ancillary ligands. 58,59 An analogous ligand without the tert-butyl groups has been used for the formation of coordination polymers with Ag + , Ni 2+ , Co 2+ , and Zn 2+ together with K + . 60,61 TMTCA derivative-based coordination polymers using 3d metals have also been reported 62 and shown to form hydrogen-bonded networks.…”

“…However, for both TCA and TMTCA, the presence of bridging S atoms not only leads to an enhancement of the size of the macrocycle cavity but also provides additional coordinating sites. Tetrasubstituted thiacalix[4]arene derivatives bearing cyano, [17][18][19] carboxyl, [20][21][22] pyridyl, [23][24][25][26][27][28] coordinating groups were combined with metal cations for the formation of coordination networks displaying a variety of dimensionalities (1D-3D). In contrast to CA, for these sulfur containing tectons, only the 1,3-alternate conformation has been used.…”
