“…We searched PubMed and Japanese medical abstract databases for cancer cases with a hydrocoele in the canal of Nuck and found four reported cases (Table 1) [[12], [13], [14], [15]]. All reported cases occurred on the right side.…”

“…Although they showed no invasion to tissues around the canal of Nuck, 2 of the 4 cases ( Table 1 , case 1, 2) showed recurrence in the inguinal region at 3 months and 3 years after the first surgery, respectively. Additionally, 2 of the 4 cases ( Table 1 , case 2, 3) showed lung metastasis at 21 months and 2 years after the first surgery, respectively ( Irvin et al, 1998 ; Ito et al, 2010 ; Mesko et al, 1988 ; Sun et al, 1979 ). “…The entire fold is normally obliterated within the first year of life in female infants. Occasionally, the canal of Nuck remains patent and permits the seeding of endometriotic tissue in inguinal soft tissues ( Irvin et al, 1998 ; Ito et al, 2010 ; Mesko et al, 1988 ; Sun et al, 1979 ).…”

“…There are only four reported cases of malignant M€ ullerian neoplasms that originated from endometriosis involving hydrocele of the canal of Nuck. 5 These neoplasms are "lowgrade adenocarcinoma", clear cell carcinoma, endometrioid carcinoma, and endometrioid stromal sarcoma. A cystic or saccular structure consistent with hydrocele was associated with the malignant neoplasm in these cases.…”

“…The inner surface of the cyst was largely covered by aggregates of hemosiderin‐laden macrophages, suggesting old endometriosis, but in small areas, it was lined by mesothelial cells, which indicates the origin of the cyst from the canal of Nuck . To the best of our knowledge, only four cases of malignant neoplasms arising from hydrocele of the canal of Nuck have been reported (reviewed in reference 5), but there is no report of carcinosarcoma arising therefrom. Another rare finding was the focal neuroendocrine differentiation of tumor cells in the sarcomatous component, in addition to differentiation toward endometrial stromal cells.…”
