A collaborative trust management scheme for emergency communication using delay tolerant networks

Abstract: Abstract-Delay Tolerant Network (DTN) comprises of nodes with small and limited resources including power and memory capacity. We propose the use of DTN as an alternate means of communication for the dissemination of emergency information in a post-disaster evacuation operation. We investigate the performance of DTN in providing emergency communication support services under packet dropping attacks. We consider internally motivated attacks where the nodes that are part of the emergency rescue team are compromi… Show more

“…The authors also analyzed the impact of selfish nodes on packet delivery ratio in DTNs. The paper [192] proposed collaborative trust management system which is actually Watch-dog based system to detect malicious node in post disaster scenario. Watch-Dog based system is not very effective in DTNs due to high ratio of false positive.…”

“…Proposed algorithms do not consider SPDA. Researchers in article [45] proposed "watchdog" based collaborative-trust-management-system, which detects misbehaving nodes in natural disaster scenarios. This research article does not consider SPDA.…”

“…The Collaborative Trust Management Scheme (CTMS) [58] is based on the typical MANET watchdog technique, which examines traffic on the network and identifies nodes behaving inappropriately. By counting the packets that each node must receive and computing a trust level for each neighbor node as the ratio of packets forwarded to the ratio of packets relayed to it, a simple watchdog deployment able to run in a node monitors the messages transferred and received by the neighboring nodes.…”
