“…Although an increasing number of plants are being scientifically documented for their antihyperglycemic, antioxidant and insulin stimulating activities [51] the lack of scientific data supporting the anti-diabetic properties of fresh Carica papaya is now slowly changing. The antihyperglycemic effect of papaya is thought to target pancreatic β cells by improving their sensitivity to insulin, at the same time inhibiting α-amylase and α-glucosidase [52], a response which bears much resemblance to a second generation sulfonylurea called glibenclamide.…”

“…These types of extracts can reduce the blood glucose level by inhibiting the gastric enzymes which are obligatory for the break the polysaccharides into the simple sugar. 1 The bioactive compounds contained in red betel leaves and Dayak onions have the potential to be used as antidiabetic drugs. The red betel leaf extract at a dose of 50 mg/kg body weight and a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight could reduce blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced rats and administered onion extract of water and ethanol with a dose of 100 mg/ kg for 28 days.…”

“…Flavonoids have the ability to reduce the formation of free radicals and to scavenge free radicals (Rice- Evans et al, 1996;Amić et al, 2003;Ganesan et al, 2016). Consequently, the exploration for phyto-nutraceutical substances with antioxidative activity has been exaggerated in recent years (Lobo et al, 2010;Pandeya et al, 2013) mainly in connection with type 2 diabetes (Jakus, 2000;Montonen et al, 2004;Kamalakkannan and Prince, 2006;Pandey and Rizvi, 2009;Dewanjee et al, 2011;Wedick et al, 2012;Babu et al, 2013;Kan et al, 2015;Li et al, 2016).…”
