Objective: Parang romang (Boehmeria virgata) is one of the traditional medicines that are used empirically by Makassar tribal healers, South Sulawesi, as an antitumor drug. This traditional medicine contains secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. However, secondary metabolites of those leaves extract have low solubility in water. Hence, to be formula, self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS) is one of the solutions to increase the extract solubility. Methods: The optimization of two formula optimum SNEDDS parang romang leaves (T80PGMZ and T20PGMZ) was using the simple lattice design (SLD) method which will give 28 SNEDDS formula parang romang leaves each of which the formula is tested for its characteristics as a critical point include emulsification time, % transmittance, drug loading, particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index, and morphology particle. Results: The results of SNEDDS characterization obtained the optimum formula T80PGMZ with emulsification time 12.6 s, % transmittance 92.21%, drug loading 68.21 ppm, particle size 370.26 nm, zeta potential −31.4 mV, polydispersity index of 0.615, and regular particle morphology with spherical chunks at a magnification of 10,000 times with a particle size of 10 μm. Conclusion: SNEDDS of parang romang leaves extracts that used olive oil as oil phase, Tween 80 as a surfactant, and propylene glycol as the cosurfactant provided nanoemulsion with good characteristics.
Background: Red betel leaf and Dayak onion is used traditionally to treat diabetes mellitus, The use of this combination of extracts to assess the effectiveness of the combination therapy is getting better by working synergistically. Objective: This study aimed to determine the hypoglycemic effect and the effective dose of ethanol extract combination of red betel leaf and Dayak onion of male rats (Rattus norvegicus). Methods: The number of 35 male rats were divided into 7 groups and each group consisted of five rats. The first group (normal control) was given Na CMC; the second group (negative control) streptozotocin-induced ; the third group (positive control) glibenclamide , while the 4 th , 5 th ,6 th , and 7 th were successively given a single dose of ethanol extract of red betel leaf 25 mg/KgBB, a single dose of Dayak onion50 mg/ KgBB, combination red betel leaf and forest onion bulbs, 25+50 and 50+100 mg/kg bb. Each rat group was intraperitoneally (IP) induced with STZ 40 mg/KgBB and then treated for 21 days. The hypoglycemic effect was tested by using the God-Pap method. Result: Phytochemical analysis revealed that flavonoids, tannins, saponins, phytosterols and phenols were present in ethanol extract of red betel leaf and forest onion bulbs. The study concluded that the combination of red betel leaf and Dayak onion at doses 25 mg/KgBB and 50 mg/KgBB were synergistic in reducing glucose. Conclusion: In conclusion, the ethanol extract combination of red betel leaf and dayak onion have hypoglycemic effects.

This study aims to determine the type of secondary metabolite compounds in red betel leaf ethanol extract, the potential of red betel leaf ethanol extract on blood glucose, creatinine, and urea levels of male white rats induced by streptozotocin. This study used 30 white male rats which were divided into 6 groups: normal control, negative control, positive control, the dose of 150, 250, and 350 mg/kg BW. The showed that results ethanol extract of red betel leaves contained alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, saponins, and tannins. Ethanol extract of red betel leaf at a dose of 150 mg /kg BW is an effective dose in reducing levels glucose blood with an average value of decreased blood glucose levels of 238.25 mg/dL, and has an effect on creatinine and ureum, with an average dose of 350 mg/kg BW with a mean creatinine level of 0.64 mg/dL and mean ureum of 39.68 mg/dL. Penelitian dilaksanakan selama 10 bulan (Maret - Desember 2016) di PTN. Universitas Sulawesi Barat. Luaran yang direncanakan yaitu rekayasa sosial berupa model kebijakan dalam mengembangkan sistem kepegawaian di Universitas Sulawesi Barat. Luaran Kedua yaitu berupa artikel ilmiah yang dipublikasikan di jurnal berISSN. Metode pengumpulan data penelitian menggunakan metode sensus semua data pegawai yang mutasi di Universitas Sulawesi Barat. Teknik pengumpulan datanya melalui kuisioner dan wawancara, sedangkan analisis data dengan menggunakan software SPSS dengan analisis Regresi Berganda.
