The present article presents some characteristics and information about the Citizenship approach in the thermochemistry contents of the Chemistry textbooks of the National Textbook Program (PNLD), from 2008 to 2018. Qualitative research, the collection technique is the bibliographic analysis. The processing of data took place by categories raised a priori: the history of Science, environmental education and multiculturalism. The results indicate that the historical content is superficial; most books have small boxes with images of scientists, few historical texts and a lack of activities that rescue the content. In relation to environmental issues, the works have evolved over the PNLD editions; at first, the predominance of environmental education is simple and conservative, but it has evolved over the new editions with more texts, issues and activities that help promote sustainable development. Multiculturalism also needs a better approach, since images of white men prevailed and, in contrast, few images of black men, as well as women and the absence of Indians. In this perspective, although the improvement of some Chemistry books throughout the PNLD has been noticed, it was possible to notice, that they still do not contemplate education for the citizen perspective.
