A Histopathological Examination: The Sciatic Nerve Injury Following Analgesic Drug Injection In Rats

Abstract: OBJECTIVE:Sciatic nerve neuropathy can be observed following intramuscular gluteal injections. The histopathological examination of sciatic nerve damage following intramuscular injection in the gluteal region for acute pain treatment is not feasible in humans due to the inability to dissect and examine the nerve tissue. To overcome this issue, we used a rat model for demonstrating damage to the sciatic nerve tissue after the application of commonly used drug injections.METHODS:We investigated possible damage f… Show more

“…Statistically significant differences were observed between the control and SHAM groups ( P < 0.005); we think that saline injection in the SHAM group can, sometimes, be harmful. [ 35 ] Figure 2b shows a minimal central canal enlargement in the SHAM group animals. The sample number is limited in this study.…”

“…changes in the SHAM group were observed (Figure 1C, and Figure 3), so saline injection in the SHAM group can be harmful (30). Moreover, increased spinal pressure after blood injection may be the cause of Th3 neuronal degeneration.…”

“…1C and 3), indicating that saline injection in the sham group can be harmful. 30 Moreover, increased spinal pressure after blood injection may be the cause of T3 neuronal degeneration. This study was performed on animals in a research laboratory with a rigid observation and careful histopathologic examination after follow-up.…”

“…The sciatic nerve has an important role in the body's motor because it is responsible for innervating most of the muscles in the body's lower extremities (Elder, 2007). Pesticides have been known to cause damage to the sciatic nerve (Bostan, 2017). The high use of pesticides increases the risk of sciatic nerve injury in workers in the agroindustry sector due to exposure to pesticides, especially workers who are teenagers.…”
