Objectives: Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a serious pathology with a high death and morbidity rate. There can be a relationship between hydromyelia and hydrocephalus following SAH; however, this subject has not been well investigated. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four rabbits (3 ± 0.4 years old; 4.4 ± 0.5 kg) were used in this study. Five of them were used as the control, and five of them as the SHAM group. The remaining animals ( n = 14) had been used as the study group. The central canal volume values at the C1-C2 levels, ependymal cells, numbers of central canal surfaces, and Evans index values of the lateral ventricles were assessed and compared. Results: Choroid plexus edema and increased water vesicles were observed in animals with central canal dilatation. The Evans index of the brain ventricles was 0.33 ± 0.05, the mean volume of the central canal was 1.431 ± 0.043 mm 3 , and ependymal cells density was 5.420 ± 879/mm 2 in the control group animals ( n = 5); 0.35 ± 0.17, 1.190 ± 0.114 mm 3 , and 4.135 ± 612/mm 2 in the SHAM group animals ( n = 5); and 0.44 ± 0.68, 1.814 ± 0.139 mm 3 , and 2.512 ± 11/mm 2 in the study group ( n = 14). The relationship between the Evans index values, the central canal volumes, and degenerated ependymal cell densities was statistically significant ( P < 0.05). Conclusions: This study showed that hydromyelia occurs following SAH-induced experimental hydrocephalus. Desquamation of ependymal cells and increased cerebrospinal fluid secretion may be responsible factors in the development of hydromyelia.

Aim: Neurogenic pulmonary edema (NPE) following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is still one of the most catastrophic complications with its high morbidity and mortality rate. Systemic sympathetic hyperactivity has been considered in the pathogenesis, but it has not been clarified. In this study, the relationship between the degeneration of Th3 dorsal root ganglion (DRG) and developing NPE following spinal SAH was investigated. Methods: The study was conducted on 23 rabbits. Five of them were used as the control group (n=5), and the remainder was divided into the SHAM group (n=5) and the study group (n=13). The correlation between degenerated neuronal densities of Th3 nerve axons and neurons in DRG and NPE scores were analyzed statistically Results: A correlation between the study and the SHAM group was found for neuronal degeneration Th3 nerve, its DRG, and high NPE scores. Massive NPE was detected in the study group along with neural degeneration of Th3 axons and ganglia. Conclusion: The present study indicates that neurogenic pulmonary edema and pulmonary artery vasospasm can be prevented by reducing Th3 DRG degeneration.

Several types of pesticides that are often used are chlorpyrifos (organophosphate), carbofuran (carbamate), and cypermethrin (pyrethroid). Pesticides can kill pests but also can cause toxic effects on humans when exposed. One of the adverse effects of pesticide exposure is a disturbance in the peripheral nervous system. Age is an essential factor in peripheral nerve damage. Nerve injury is one of the most common injuries in children and adolescents and is estimated at 10% to 15% of all exceptional unit cases. However, the outcome of peripheral nerve injury is known better in subjects who sustain the injury at a younger age. This study aims to determine the subchronic exposure effect of chlorpyrifos, carbofuran, and cypermethrin to sciatic nerve histopathology in juvenile rats. This study used 30 male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) which were divided into 5 groups, normal group (N), control group (K), chlorpyrifos group (P1), carbofuran group (P2) and cypermethrin group (P3). Subcutaneous injection of pesticides was carried out for 21 days. Rats were sacrificed using the cervical dislocation method, and the right sciatic nerve was taken for histopathological observation. Assessment of the degree of ischiatic nerve histopathological damage is using the Jensen et al., (2018) method. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and continued with the Mann-Whitney test. This study showed a significantly increased degree of histopathological damage in the chlorpyrifos group, carbofuran group, and cypermethrin group compared to the control group and the normal group (p<0.05). It can be concluded that exposure to chlorpyrifos, carbofuran, and cypermethrin pesticides increased damage and degeneration of the ischiadicus nerve in juvenile rats.
